Aside from line units or motor pools (or any other physical-type duty), should the Army move to a more professional uniform for daily duties?

If we're truly trying to more to a more professional looking group, (hairstyles, tattoos, etc.) why not go to the Class B/Tropical uniform on a daily basis?

I spend Monday through Friday in the motor pool, I can't even sustain new nice looking ACUs and boots for more then three days without them looking messed up. I bought boots five days ago and they are already a mess.

This would be an added hardship to the troops. I bet most senior soldiers wouldn't even wear their ribbons everyday because of the hassle of taking them off dirty shirts and putting them on clean ones. What about those random taskings that E4 and below get while supervised by E5 and up? Should everyone have a set of ACUs ready to change into? I'm surprised that 59% of people on this discussion board are in favor of it -Probably Soldiers who work in nice air conditioned offices.

I think that is the point, for example, why're people at the Pentagon wearing ACUs? It is an office building 5 rings worth.

Hell NO! I hate the dress uniform as is, having to dry clean that damn thing every week and pay for a replacement that cost more than my annual clothing allowance, yeah right. Fuck that noise. I'd ask for a seperation before I let the Army bleed my bank account dry.

I'll go against the norm here......I voted yes. I work in a staff setting 95% of the time and although it would be more tedious, I believe taking the time to set up ones dress uniform instills a sense of pride. I'll probably have to buy a few more pairs of pants, dress shirts and a steamer. Set up nice facilities for the laundry and bath specialists and allow ALL Soldiers to drop of dress uniforms for dry cleaning at no cost to the Soldier.

I'm going to split the difference and say it depends. If you're primarily pushing a desk, I'm going to say yes. Battalion/brigade hq elements and above, finance office, SCIF, joint (non-combat) environment, wear them.
But my reason is different than everybody else's. This way I know who doesn't belong. I see someone wearing class b's in my company area, i know to check them out. Is he wearing the right DUI for our unit? Was that face on the wall of people I should know? Is it something to bother/notify the 1SG or Commander? Is it a new soldier, lost?
Either way, a problem identified, is a problem half solved.

I know when I was in Recruiting Command it was our duty uniform. I think it make sense in some MOS or duties positions.

I don't care what they wear but I don't believe utilities should be allowed in public

DoD is moving back to a 'garrison' posture. If memory serves, the rational for moving to ACU's/Utility uniforms on a daily basis was to present the image of a department/nation at war. That is no longer the case, or it won't be soon, so the 'new normal' should be service members to present a professional miltiary appearance whenever possible.
The comparision could be made to other professional jobs, when you are representing the organization, either at headquarters, or to 'outside' individuals you should look your best, just like you would want/expect to be represented yourself.
Obviously this is situationally dependant, you wouldn't go to a field excercise in a dress/semi-dress uniform, but you wouldn't (hopefully) wear coverall's to court either.
Would you want your lawyer or your wedding party, or your elected official, showing up in jeans and a polo, or a suit?
