Oh my, 2LT Earl Dean ! Here I was so excited to get my first downvote. Oh well. It's okay--misunderstandings happen all the time. One of these days, I might (key word is 'might') write up something on dealing with people who have mental health issues.

MSgt Bj Jones - I wish you would or someone anyway! My family tell me I am to short tempered most the time. I think they are correct! Not an excuse but fact I suffer PTSD and get touchy about the subject. To much so sometimes. Again sorry for the miss-read. I will strive to do better.

2LT Earl Dean , the difficulty in trying to write something like that would be having to try to consider the sensitivity of both sides: The ones who have the mental issues and the ones who have to live and work with those having the mental issues. Perhaps you could give your family permission to walk away when you're getting short-tempered, or to tell you to take a deep breath and count to ten. When your mind is going in weird directions, it can be hard to act appropriately.

Someone posted an article on Rally Point about a Marine overcoming PTSD. In the article, an organization was referenced, "The Headstrong Project" which serves to help those with PTSD for free. So you think you're better than, say, MS3 Lakeina Francis? She was an e-4 cook. Certainly a 'lesser' being by YOUR twisted definition. Less rank, (because you were never e-3 or e-4, right?) Fun fact, Eric (I refuse to use your rank. You clearly don't deserve it): without some e-3 'commo guy' telling you where to go, you're worthless. Sitting around and waiting. And when you do engage, it'll be a 'commo' guy that calls in support, air strikes, etc. Or maybe some newly-trained AF e-1 sitting in an intelligence center gets word that YOUR 'elite' (ROFL!) ass is about to get shot up, and he warns your unit about it?

Finally, I'll leave you with this thought, a Navy E-3 can push a button and ANNIHILATE your entire fucking 'elite' DIVISION if such an order came to pass.

SGT Eric Kesseler - It is baffling to me how you can insult something on the order of 800k brothers and sisters in arms, who put their lives on the line for you and yours, who write the government the same blank check that you do, and look at yourself in the mirror.

By insulting the entire Navy just because you are angry at me and my (admittedly) heated posts, you reveal your true character. You evidently have no sense of history, or honor, or you'd be ashamed. American Naval personnel have given every bit as much as you ever did throughout history, and we wouldn't be the country we are today without them.

It saddens me that I was part and parcel to exposing your ugliness. Someone who SHOULD be my brother. Someone who I would have died for, when it was my turn. Someone I would STILL die for, today, if called upon to do so, because the oath I took never said anything about liking the people (and constitution) I help protect.

The only reason I wasn't killed in combat was because I am short and the shrapnel hit my helmet instead of me. So, no Purple Heart, but I know FULL well the ultimate sacrifice many in all branches have lost. As I said before, the Infantryman doesn't do things others cannot do, he simply does things others WON'T do. You served, which is honorable. Never implied it wasn't. Everyone has an important role to play but sometime when you are bored read about the Combat Infantryman Badge which was created in 1943. It's rationale for creating the badge even says that it doesn't discount others who have survived combat. The CIB is meant to honor those who bare the brunt of the suffering and sacrifice. My Uncle served aboard the Enterprise during the 60's in the Mediterranean. In fact, the SEALs and SWCC illustrate the difference between war fighters and the rest of the team which supports the tip of the spear.
