What do these US military bases have in common?

Fort Bragg
Fort Rucker
Fort Hood
Fort Lee
Fort Benning
Fort Gordon
Fort A.P. Hill
Fort Polk
Fort Pickett
Camp Beauregard (Operated by the Louisiana National Guard)

They are all named for Confederate generals. There’s been talk for years about whether this is appropriate, and now in wake of Charleston and the South Carolina Confederate flag, it’s coming up again.

Do you think these posts should be renamed to honor people who fought in the U.S. Army exclusively? Vote, and share your thoughts in the comments section below.

They lost an armed insurrection, and we glorify them. Half a million Americans dead, for what? So they could lose, capitulate anyway? They had more loyalty to their states than their nation. Let their individual states honor them as they please; their names do not belong on federal property.

Are you having some odd argument with yourself? I didn't even respond to your post, because it was - as you stated - sarcasm, and because it seemed to be responding to something that absolutely nobody said. Not a single one of my arguments has been refuted or disproven, though I'm definitely impressed with people's ability to put words in my mouth, argue against the things I didn't say, then declare victory. It's truly astonishing.

LCDR (Join to see), your view seems to hinge on a very black-and-white view that "They were traitors" and "Traitors should not be respected."

Most of your critics have grown frustrated at your resistance to the notion that oftentimes, including in this instance, a closer examination will reveal many shades of grey.

A shade of grey is dependent on the person viewing it. I realize other people see shades here, and I'm quite aware of why. I simply disagree. It doesn't make me stupid or uneducated, it just means I don't have sympathy for them.

SFC (Join to see) - Certainly could rename one after GEN Patton...he certainly earned it.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
