We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.
You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

First, if you get pay retirement is because you put 20 or more, if you had the paperwork and VA gives you 70 or more for your injuries you work for it, if the SS gives you disability is because you also paid for it. Stop trying to mess with that, veteran's worked hard to defend our way of life. Why not look at congressman and there wonderful retirement package.

Raise your hand if someone (vso or equivalent) offered to apply for benefits and you nah man, give it to someone else who earned it. There were 11% of us who said the others are wrong...are you also not seeking a refund from the IRS and not filing for social security in retirement because you don't need it?

One is for depreciation or retirement in the military. One is for depreciation while in the military. One is for the lessened earnings power.

Easy to say this when you aren't that age and depending on retirement, VA and Social Security. It isn't that much money. Find a new topic to bitch about.

There is no triple dipping. Totally three different programs. DOD retirement is earned not given. VA compensation is a Medical Tort claim that you mediate with the VA if eligible. SSDI is disability insurance for workers who has 10 years plus or meet the points requiments and paid FICA taxes. SSI is disability payment associated with low income. Please learn and educate yourselves on the correct terminology. Take care.

Smh, a service member that has served enough time to earn a retirement check & is disabled deserves his $$ how ever many times he retired it's earned

Yes. We paid for SSDI every paycheck; our friend FICA. Now a Person who puts in 20+ and earns retirement service should get it. For special combat dispensation allowance Congress says the US should compensate a disabled Wounded Warrior. This is no different than getting long term disability, SSDI, and defined benefit retirement from a civilian or state/local government. Cops, firefighters, etc. get these type benefits in many jurisdictions.

Very sensitive subject for some, but triple dipping should be strictly controlled, especially for those who serve less than 20 years, but there are always individual circumstances. For instance, if someone has very severe injuries; traumatic TBI, lost limbs, etc. Everyone in those categories should be 100%.
If everyone were entitled to triple dip, where's the integrity of the programs? There is definitely a huge difference, if veterans think otherwise, they need to go spend a day with a veteran (or caregivers of veterans) who have missing limbs, or severe irreconcilable brain damage. Just my thoughts.
