We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.

You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

One is for longevity. One is for depreciating the body or mind. One is for the inability to work. I have no qualms.

At the end of the day Uncle Sam doesn’t give a damn about the individual serviceman, and will use, abuse, and toss you aside on a whim. I see no problem with somebody fighting for every penny they’re owed under the system.

Do you know how much our country sends to other countries that train terrorist like lybia? Over a billion dollars. And that is only 1 country that gets out tax money. Quit turning on one another when the people making the decisions are fucking shit up and dividing us.

I agree with you 1SG, it's assumed that Veterans and Retirees are in good Physical and Mental Health. Those of us that have survived to be identified as Veterans and Retirees have made payments in the very programs which when are being payed out of. If we draw more than we put in, we'll drawing then from the money that those who can't draw due to their total comment and from those who are healthy. Smart investments and time have allowed me to enjoy the fruits of me being payed for my comment to the Army and our Nation. But I like many, could find myself homeless at almost any time.

SFC Niles Heggie - I agree with you. Look at all the unions drawing benefits such as city, county, state, and federal retirement. Jacksonville, Florida is in negotiations with police and fire unions trying to pay off over a billion dollar deficit that the city is liable for.

Why not? Many have earned it and with all of those who suffer from PTSD, many can not go back into the civilian workforce. So if they rate it, let them have it. They more than earned it.

What a lot of people don't realize is that you can't make more than 100% than your base pay. Really what is happening is the VA offsets what you don't get from the army, and the more the VA pays you, the less the Army does. Nobody is truly "triple dipping", they are getting what is owed to them for sacrificing their health.

Not true Sgt. If you are retired and have 50% disability rating by VA, you get full pension and full disability pay.

You need to recheck your numbers, if thats what your getting you need to get your butt down to the VA and get it fixed. You only should be giving up a small, token (about $5) amount of your retirement for your VA benefits.

Clarification - you have to meet some other requirements other than a 50% VA rating to get full disability pay. For me, the law says 20 qualifying years of service. I was lucky enough to receive an active duty medial retirement because I was injured while deployed to Kuwait, but my disability was not in combat, and even though I had over 20 years of qualifying service for a reserve retirement, I did not have "20 qualifying years for a regular retirement". I am 80 % military medically retired and 90% VA disabled, 70% service connected.

I work for a auto manufacture and on the floor there's a "2 star" retired General working for the maintenance dept.

Got to wonder about that, a retired MG should be getting about 5 to 6 grand a month for retirement pay, he should be able to get VA benefits and Generals tend to get snapped up by major corporations for high ranking and paying positions

Either he really enjoys physical work, or he wasn't a general. They make so much in retirement it isn't funny. You also have to question what he did for 20plus years at that point if he couldn't get anything higher. I'm going to go with he's lying.

If you meet those requirements, the life is hard and it's legal. No heartache here.

If you meet the requirements, I don't see an issue and I don't see it as "scamming" the system. If you meet the requirements, chances are you're owed the money and are still paying for your service, through physical or mental pain that never goes away.

Ridiculous to even question this. The people who qualify for this earned every red cent they're paid.

For anyone to stand there and judge them is atrocious. Someone who meets these criteria is most likely in constant pain and will have a shortened life.

Whoever decided to judge this is a total asshole.
