We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.
You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

I was medicaled after 16 years, VA rated me 100%, unemployable, and Social Security Rated me 100% disabled. So explain why if I can't work, I'm 47, I'm suppose to live off on the economy that unlike a near a military base, add 5% to everything.

Here is my thought, use it while it's there cause there is no guarantee it will be there later.

Over 20 years, the ass kicking that you're going to take whether it be physical, mental, emotional or all three, you're never going to be compensated for all you deserve. Quite frankly, most won't so no, I don't have a problem with people beating the very same system that beat them two and in this case three times over.

If a veteran served 20 years, they earned that normally by age 40. That's still working age. I don't see an issue if they are injured and can't continue to work. They should qualify for additional compensation. They can't work to earn it.

I've paid into my social security since the age of 16. I would like to know I can use it once I hit the age requirement.

When I saw that a retired sherriff in FL is getting 7k a month for a pension, I realized my 23 years E9 retired pay is not very good.

You have to be retired from the military, 100% tariff from VA, and then shiny for SSDI, where you are likely to be turned down. You will have to appeal & hire a lawyer to win the appeal, ave will probably lose. Military retirees are federal employees. We payed in to social security like everyone else. We are veterans like every other veteran. Until 2004, we are the only federal retirees who could not collect VA disability. Post 9/11 military retirees can now collect their federal person & VA disability. But SSDI is difficult. It shouldn't be for 100% disabled vets, but it is.

Get it! If you qualify for it get it! The value of what you lost can never be measured so take the little bit that they try to compensate you for.

Well let me just say as a person who does need all three. It's not given to any of us. I suffered a spinal cord injury in 2003, continued to fight through to 2012 when I became crippled with constant pain from my injury. I retired received 100% rating and still tried to work after three jobs multiple hospital stays I took full retirement in 2014 filed for SSDI and received it 4.5 years later after multiple denials and only 6 months back pay. So believe me, triple dipping is earned not given.
