We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.
You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

Not making more then you earned is absurd !!! In the late 90’s early 2000 so guys we’re making 7k a year at least in the Marines not count all the time you train and don’t sleep it’s like 2cents a hour!! Me and a few broke down our off time to training and missions and it’s awful the pay!! Then you get shipped out need to pay for calls that are a absurd rate!! May be different now but back then no bueno

I don't meet all the requirements due to being honorably medically discharged with only 12 yrs in. So i dont qualify for retirement, yet my body is so f'ed up that they are allowing me to collect my 50% and receive ssd, and just found out that i have cancer due to exposure from last deployment in 2003. If they can get it i say do what needs done. We deserve all we get.

They are your benefits, you earned them. Its no different than a person who does his 20 gets a pension, gets a gs rated job works another 10 years and gets a second pension.

Reservist with right at 17 “Good Years” at 80% VA, and waiting for the VA Board Appeal which will most likely push me to 100%. I’m a “Gray Line Reservist”
Outside I work as a Homicide Detective, but I only have 22 years and need 25 to qualify for Retirement.
Due to my Severe TBI, I now have Sezuires and am required to take Meds to Control them. I also have a myriad of other residules that have came along with this TBI.
PD is nervous about me carrying a weapon, and on Seizure Control Meds, so they might “Retire” me before I qualify for Pension. So instead of 65% immediately, I’ll get 40%-45% at 55 years old. I’m 45 years old.
The Navy Med Board might keep me dragging along long enough for the 18 year window. Then I won’t Retire until my 20 which means now pay until 57 years old at a fraction of the Active Duty % that I would have gotten.
I am a Single Dad of 3.
Triple Dip, within the rules, if possible.

To be rated that bad, you got seriously effed up. You'll need every penny.

Back in the day, "triple dippers" we're those who had retired from the military, worked twenty years for a government agency, (e.g. u.s.p.s.), retired from both, and were collecting benefits from the SSA.
Either way, if you meet the requirements . . . GO FOR IT!!!!

I double dip. 70% VA and 100% SSDI. Both are unrelated. Why is it an issue? I've was given a max of fifteen years to live with the issues that I have. That was six years ago. So I have nine left. Unless something is found. No doctors all the way up to NIH can give me any real hope. Live with that. And look at your family too. Why do you think that those that qualify dont deserve it?

Broke My back and neck on a jump. Served another 8 years and retired with 23 years. Tried working for several years. Can longer work a full day even in Mgmt position due to Back/Neck pain. Can do 1-2 tasks at house per day. ( Mow Lawn, dishes, trim hedges, etc.) Constant pain. Can't play with grandkids like I would like to. Yet I still am only at 60% with VA fighting my %. If I can get up to 100, Damn right I will. I'm not playing the system. I'm asking for what I earned over 23 years and 14 deployments.
