We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.

You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

If you died in combat, you would be a number. All the BS aside only your family, fellow service members who knew you would give a fq. To the Government it's an SGLI payout. So fqem. Get what's coming to you if you came home, especially less than what you left. I love my country, if she loves me back, pay me bish.

Technically you don't have to have the 20 years service time; a medical retirement will allow you to do this as well.

I just had my I claim approved in January. Getting ready for my SSI exam in two weeks. I won't be drawing retirement pay for another 10 years. That being said, and I am being sincere about this...I would gladly give it all up if I could just feel normal again. I lost several jobs, my marriage, my home to foreclosure and my military career due to PTSD. I have my pride and it kills me to feel the way I do. I feel like everyone threw me to the side of the road like trash, and that was after earning a Masters degree after I came back. I did everything I was supposed to, gave more than I had, and for what? Meaningless pieces of paper on the wall? If I'm lucky, I get to see my son a few times a month. I have become increasingly anti-social, even afraid to sleep my own bed for fear of what may happen while I am asleep. Yeah I go to the VA, yeah they give me meds. Still, I look at all of these accomplishments and feel like I did it all for nothing. Even worse, I feel guilty about saying anything because others out there are worse off. Just wondering, how exactly should I feel after all this? I really don't know anymore.

I believe once you have served you should have those benefits because of the sacrifices and the way we are treated by civilians at the VA only Veterans can take care of Veterans

I got a Navy retirement after seven years. Get 100% from the VA and SSI. But I did get crushed by an M-60 tank onboard my landing craft. The scars are pretty wicked, my best ASSet is now gone. I think I deserve it.

Not anymore. I was medically retired in 2010 from the military with a 50% rating. When the VA FINALLY gave me a rating of 80% I qualified for concurrent receipt.
