Should we bring back MOS testing as part of a promotion criteria?

So I've heard that a long time ago an evaluation of your MOS-competency, in addition to the board, was a part of getting promoted. I strongly feel something similar should come back. Being good at pt or knowing the regs are great but actually being knowledgeable in your MOS would seem to be just as important if not more so. Does the future look like it may return to this?

They still do this in the navy and it’s a great idea. While working a joint mission with them I saw a E-5 going for their E-6 that required a report on a specific subject in their MOS.

I work with a MSG who has only been in the Army for around 14 years. Yes she is a real nice lady but there is no way she should be an E8

Sat test score of 80 or above meant you could be promoted, 79 or below meant you stayed at your current rank

The replies in here are the reason or was phased out “knowing nothing” about your MOS is a matter of opinion that wasn’t supported by evidence and should be treated as so

That test was a waste money and time since the army was not keeping up with current MOS skills that why they ended the SQT Test... you E 7 and E8 failing those test cause the test materials was so old not what the NCO was doing today...

I joined the infantry in 1979. We had the SQT tests. Must have been a reason for the change?
