Being that the western half of Iraq and Eastern half of Syria have been "cleansed" by ISIS, and any remaining non ISIS personnel have either been killed or have evacuated the area, do you think an all out offensive on any person in that region would be effective or reasonable. Carpet bomb the place and move in to wipe them out...or continue with diplomacy that is clearly working...? and yes that is sarcasm at the end

I say carpet bomb the place and then roll in with the Infantry and tanks to take out whats left. We have to be more aggressive with this or it's never going to end.

Let me get this straight. You want to go I to a region that is brutally controlled through fear and violence, making the assumption that the people there all choose to be ruled by said fear and violence, and carpet bomb them? What the hell is wrong with you?

Too many people think force-of-arms is a solution to everything. We won wars handily prior to Vietnam because we were convinced of their cause. I don't see how bombing a population that is currently ruled by fear and brutality is the way to win here. There are millions of Muslims in that area of the world who would be ISIS's targets for murder or intimidation; doesn't it make a lot more sense to empower them to fight for themselves?

Don't get me wrong, the occasional tactical air strike most certainly has its place. Full-scale war to take care of fewer than 100,000 people in a region surrounded by millions who would otherwise oppose them makes zero sense to me.

LTJG James Jones - while I respect your responses... I find your response of "what the hell is wrong with you" to be a little brash when I clearly asked a questions, in hopes of getting the opinions of my brethren at arms.
"do you think an all out offensive on any person in that region would be effective or reasonable. Carpet bomb the place and move in to wipe them out...or continue with diplomacy that is clearly working...?"
however, "the occasional tactical air strike" is not currently working and hasnt for the last 8 months. Im curious if your position would be different if say your neighborhood was the one being cleansed and your friends and family being invaded by murderous thugs. "force of arms" is almost always the solution... in retaliation to already on going force at arms... Please inform me of the last war or genocidal/religious cleansing that was ended do to diplomatic measures or talk...

In the actual context of my response, you'd see I was referring to OUR arms; the countries involved with ISIS absolutely should be fighting back. It's not up to us to carpet bomb a region that wants nothing to do with us. It's up to that region to deal with ISIS with our support.
