"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get ‪‎hurt feelings‬.

Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

This is just more of the "everyone gets an award/trophy" generation - now they're in the Army - which should be the biggest dose of the "real world" they get - but, instead they're too pussified to handle the truth. Not everyone is a winner. Not everyone deployed. Get the hell over it, over.

This is not one of those sensitivity training required in the military for unit cohesion, this is what happen in the military, if a unit is deployed in a combat theater..I'm hoping this is not so, and hope the military still have some strong leadership to push back instantly.

If this is true, it's such a sad sign of the times! My old 1SGT would have smoked my balls if I had ever whined about something like this.

What ever upper echelon loser came up with this needs to resign his commission and forfeit their VA benefits. If it's a SRNCO they should be charged with conduct unbecoming and given a BCD

If a patch is enough to distract your soldiers from training and limit unit cohesion you have bigger problems in the ranks. Removing patches is a sorry attempt to put a bandaid on a bigger issue. If you can't build cohesion between new soldiers and older ones fix it through leadership or fix the leadership.

When I went to OSUT in 83, our Drill Sergeant had 3 different patches for combat service that he wore on different BDU's. Think we weren't impressed? I get what the Commander said, but I don't agree. All soldiers deserve to take pride in what they have done, and the lower-ranking should be able to see that their NCO's and officers have experience in harm's way.

I enlisted in the early 80s. There were a lot of Vietnam vets around. The young guys looked up to them and learned from their experience.
