"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get ‪‎hurt feelings‬.

Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

I had a BDE CO that did this in 1/503 for all field problems inluding all tabs. His reasoning was that it was all about your laft shoulder not your right. It is one of the many reasons why after making 6 in 5 yrs im getting out.

Must be that cav unit that just left for training. My neighbor's wife was telling me her husband was upset because they was told to take it off to not upset privates that don't have a combat patch.

This is about as much bull shit as the National Guard I volunteered to go to Iraq with after leaving the active duty Marine Coros to go to college. There was an undisclosed E-7 and above ceremony where a bunch of slubs relieved bronze stars. Not one of them did anything to deserve them. Some of them never even left the wire. Fing joke.

What kind of poor little ole me infantry is this? These soldiers have been to combat, they should be allowed, nah required to display these badges during training. That way the privates can see them and respect the position of these soldiers as combat veterans. In the armed forces discipline is paramount. You don't get badges for sitting on your hands. Are you going make everyone take off their expert markmanship badge because someone else only got sharpshooter?

These combat patches and certain awards like a combat action ribbons are badges of honor that are earned. Those that wear them should not be stripped of them for any reason what so ever, especially because some boot feels left out. When I was a young pup I looked up to the guys who earned these awards, gave you something to aspire towards. They want them, let them go out and earn them....if they feel left out, don't worry you'll get your choice soon enough. There enough bad guys to go around.

I'm not a combat vet but have the utmost respect for those who saw fire. You earned that patch and you should goddamn well be free from restrictions to wear it! This is like getting "participation trophies" so no one feels like a loser in youth soccer.
