Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

This is the dumbest question that I ever herd of. Chain of command authorizes combat awards, during verification of the documentation of tour dates in an area that is deemed a combat zone.

Most of the NCO's in my day were Vietnam vets, close to retiring but still had a few years left to complete. these NCO's for sure as well as soldiers have EVERY RIGHT to wear a combat patch. You don't know what that guy or gal went through to earn it. Most told me about the SERIOUS suck they endured wherever they deployed. Anyone who is chickenS#$t to worry about that, take heed, you'll deploy often that you have a high chance of earning a combat patch yourself. then you'll have a different view of this topic Afterwards believe me.

I don't have a combat patch, but I wouldn't take them away because of sensitivity. I feel that people who've earned it should have the right to wear it. I haven't been looked at differently for not having a patch, but i'm sure people have their own thoughts on this.

Why is this still a topic? Did new SM's join the military and got all misty eyes about not having one? I leave in a year again. Take one of mine. Get over it and suck it up.
But I'll be on the other side of this for a second: don't be the SM that puts down someone for not having one. They are no less of a SM than you. Matter of fact, you big talkers could have been "Fobbits" the whole time and are trying to look down on others.

Why don't we just give everyone 1 million bucks that hasn't earned it! No, better yet, let's take away $1 million from people that earned it since not everybody else has it. It's definitely more important to be sensitive to people tend to take care of people that have earned the recognition.

The combat patch is to honor and reminder of what your hard earn sweat, sacrifice is all about. If the new ones can't respect that, then they need to go earn it themselves. Quit crying like the kids that get the participations award.

This is true it was a BCT at fort Carson. It also applies when they're in the field

Why lets just give them a higher rank. A combat patched is earned just like rank is earned it is not a Privilige given because you wear the uniform. If their feelings are hurt because they dont have what I earned . What will they do under fire cry because they dont want to play anymore. I have many patches from many deployment each has a special meaning for me but the one i am most proud of is the 16th MP BDG ( ABN). I deployed 3 different times with them. To me its a rite of passage to be earned not given or taken to give someone more of a feeling
