Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

When I enlisted I didn't feel "left out", I recognized those men for what they were...experienced soldiers who I could learn from. This just seems like a post designed to stir the pot. I certainly hope there's not a shred of truth to it.

I remember when I was a slick sleeved private E-1 and found out what that patch meant on the right shoulder of the Drill Instructors. I never felt it was demeaning or left out because they were different and more accomplished/experienced. Also the skills badges they wore. I looked at those men and woman (there was only one at that time in my early career) and thought I need to learn all this shit the best I can and when I get my chance earn my path and badges. They inspired me to be more and want more. If you don’t feel that when looking at those who have gone before you, you need a career change.

They have to earn it, it’s not a participation trophy, brothers and sisters died for that. The rest of us have served multiple deployments to earn ours.

These are the same people who stole the Rangers' berets because non-Rangers felt slighted. Suck it up, buttercup. Those ho have a combat EARNED it.

What the hell is the military come to. It's all about feelings now. It seems to me that it's getting to be a over rated boy scout camp. Hell you can't treat anyone like we used to. Wall to wall counseling. Dam some of these kids need that. If you want a patch go to war and get one. If your to scared then get out and quit being a puss.

I think we are raising a bunch of snowflakes in the military now! The combat patch is earned through deployment and is an honor to wear. I think the Army shouldn’t be giving in to snowflakes. What’s next a damn safe place? They need to grow the hell up and learn you don’t always get what others get! That’s all folks.
