"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get ‪‎hurt feelings‬.

Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

Not a chance. What kind of sensitive shitbirds are they churning out these days? I was in the Marines and and currently serve in the Air National Guard. Both very proudly. Guess what you don't have one because guess what? You haven't done jack
. I would not even desire to wear one if I had not earned it and even refuse to wear decorations I was awarded legitimately but mistakenly. I won't put them on a resume or take any credit for it. As far as being sensitive to their feelings?!? Get the hell out of my sight and use your time and energy to train so if and when you get into a situation where you earn your combat patch, you can function and better your chances to come home and wear what you have then earned.

I agree with you 100%. That politically correct BS was coming out in the late '60's. It got rolling pretty good in the '70's, and snowballed to the crap it is today.
I never liked it then and don't like it now!

The troops that deployed earned them and I'm sure those newbies will get their chance. Heck I did 23 yrs retired as a 1SG and I never got deployed to a combat zone, just the DMZ In Korea. I'm proud of all those that have served our country.

I hope to find that this is a fake article but in the event that it is not; I would like to start by saying I am proud of my service as an Avionics technician. Never deployed and yet supported aviation operations. Pride is something that we all should have and if we don’t it’s no one else’s fault. I remember wearing no name tape, go-fasters and a glo belt and looking forward to getting my US Marine and name tape, (oh and boots ;) ) you can be proud of yourself no matter where you are at as long as you know you are going somewhere.

This is the problem with today's generation. Trying to be politically correct and care fore everyone's feelings. This is the military, no a college campus. There are no safe spaces and everyone is not equal and THAT should be ok, expected, and understood. Privates are the lowest and just like I was, should be made to do everything. That's expected. Deployments are the ultimate level of sacrifice from a soldier, and some pay the ultimate price on top of that sacrifice. If the only thing we can provide those service members is an award and a patch then so be it, it should be held prestigious.

I was in a transportation company, scheduled for 4 deployments over my 5 years of service. I was canceled every single time. 5 years and I never deployed. I don't walk around asking others to take off their patches or to not talk about their deployment stories. They earned that right, I'm envious yes but I don't ask them to stop. I respect their patch, their sacrifice, the friends some have lost, and I would never ask them to change that

The participation trophy generation is still alive and well I see. You've got to be kidding, at least those who don't have one know they'll be at the front of the line for the next deployment.

No. Do not remove the patches. I appreciate the Commander's desire for everyone to train on a level playing field, however, if I was the new kid, I'd want to know who to look for a mentor. It won't click with everyone. Besides, they aren't fooling anyone. Everyone knows just by looking at them they're the new guys. And they know they've never deployed. They'll get their chance.

MAJ Barney Brady - Well, timing is everything. I served from 1978 to 2002, 12 years of it, 1980 to 1992, was on active duty (RA). Believe it or not, I was never sent to a combat zone, I don't have a right shoulder patch, or CIB, or CAB, or campaign ribbon, or BSM, or anything that I thought I would someday have. I would have gone and done my duty, but it wasn't in the cards. 24 years of service and no combat awards.

It is a combat patch not a participation award. Grow up and join the adult world.

Seems to defeat the entire purpose of a combat patch.

Yes, it tells others you have been. It doesn't necessary mean that you are automatically a stud, warrior, or battle hardened. I think keeping wear of it on the Dress uniform would b sufficient. The Army wears theirs on the right shoulder. I think if we were to all look more uniform and a like that we would remove the combat patch from our fatigues as our actions should speak for themselves and not our patches.

MAJ (Join to see) - While I think this thread needs to die, I really hope your post was sarcasm. Please tell me you're not one of the older millenials who believes in "Social Justice", or perhaps yours is just a troll account. Look more uniform, fatigues ...........OMG....... so does that mean you prefer "rank and base pay wealth redistribution"?

SGM, I think you got me wrong. I am old school and I guess my language showed that. I am not a millennial what so ever and I am not into social justice. It was a bit of sarcasm that we should all look alike. However I would be okay without wearing Combat Patch in Garrison. You can't say that most in Garrison who have been in service from 4-10 years and still have no combat patch don't feel a little less of a Soldier. You insinuating that my account is just a troll account is pretty sad. Yes I am new to RP, but I am no more of a Troll then you. I believe if you wanted this thread to die you would have left it alone.

MAJ (Join to see) - I'd love to see the thread die but every time someone comments, I get notification. Personally, I don't care how a Soldier feels if they've not deployed. The Army isn't split up by Garrison and non-Garrison Soldiers.......rather they're not referred to by those terms (any more). As a matter of fact during my last assignment, one of my branch chiefs, a LTC, hadn't deployed. By her own choice. Again, I don't care about a Soldier's feelings, especially if it's over something as petty as a patch. Removing them for the sake of "Garrison" uniformity is as lame as making everyone wear the same number of ribbons or stripes.
