Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

I’m not sure what bothers me more: this question, or that an E8 asked it. How can a Private ever aspire to achieve anything if more seasoned Soldiers remove items from their uniforms in order to make them feel special?

There is no damn reason to keep someone from wearing something they we awarded. That’s like telling someone they can’t wear a valor award because not everyone has one. If that’s a real thing that happened that commander should have been put in check by his 1sg or CSM. This is how you raise weak soldiers who will never want to earn anything more then a paycheck from the Army.

We are really asking this question?

This is not T- ball or kindergarden, you earned the patch wear it proudly. Give the newbie something to work for. Thats whats wrong with today generstion, they want every thing handed to them. Remember the Ant and the Grasshopper story. Don't remove any earned patch, or next they will cry about not having as many ribbons, are you willing to remove them so everyones uniforms is the same? I think not!

If you've "been there, done that" then yes wear that combat patch with pride. If the newbies have hurt feelings... tough. Eventually their time will come.

Why would anyone even ask this question. I was drafted in 1966 and was discharged in 1968. I was in Transportation and was in the 563rd TC in Vietnam from 1966-1967 in the Central Highlands. Everyone’s job is important. Remember if it wasn't for the troops in the rear the combat troops couldn’t do their jobs.
In Transportation we moved everything that the combat troops needed to do their jobs. We moved food, medical supplies, ammo etc.
I was with the 54th Transportation Battalion. We drove from the Port of Qui Nhon to Phu Car, An Khe and Pleiku among other areas. From 1966 to 1967 we drive more than 1,320,000 miles and moved 80,000 tons of cargo.
Everyone should reithat during WW II we had the Red Ball Express that moved supplies to the front line troops that needed 700-750 tons a day to do their job.
I am proud of what the troopyin The Transportation Companies did.

I was never in combat but my ex was (VN) and he was right proud of all the stuff he wore - and RIGHTFULLY so! I should have taken off my Sp5 because it offended a PFC? I THINK NOT!

Hell no! If you've been there and done that, then you have EARNED the patch, and should wear it! Just like anything else, if you Want it??? You WORK for it. It's the military, .... NOT an entitlement program like food stamps
