Should We Watch the ISIS Video of the Jordanian Pilot?

Should we as Americans view the video of the Jordanian pilot being executed by ISIS? Many news media organizations are refusing to show it due to its sheer brutality and disturbing nature. They argue that it helps to spread ISIS's propaganda message of terror and fear. Other news organizations have shown pictures from the video and have provided links (with warnings about the graphic content) to the video in full. They argue that it is necessary to understand the magnitude of the incident. I have my own thoughts on this ethical dilemma, but I want to hear what the RallyPoint community thinks about this. Should the video be shown in the media? Would you watch it? Is it spreading terrorist propaganda or understanding the enemy?

Too many Americans, both soldiers and civilians live too deeply in a false reality where everything has a reset button whether it works or not. Saying that we should not view or see the video; when we allow ourselves and our children to see something very similar in a video game, is a bit oxymoronic, don't you think?

it is important for WE THE PEOPLE to see, what kind of Barbarics animals America dealing with, we have a soft Foreign Policy Government and at the same time we as American think they will never get here to our Boders, but the true is we have to be ready our Borders are opens right now from both ends from Canada and Mexico and to be honest I bet you anything they have already infiltrate some of the sleaping cells in America due to a Weak Government and a President who help the enemy more than helping to make a stronger America and the worsen, he is not a Pro Military and he stand with Islam and Muslims even denigrating our Christianity so people we have to be ready don't give up your Weapons and be on the Alert!!!

There is no real need to view it, but the public should be made aware of the atrocities being committed by IS. As I commonly say. IS isn't going to be a "Middle East problem, let the Middle East handle it" solution. They're activity pushing member cells west to host attacks on our Allied countries and eventually probably our own glorious home turf.
They need to be met with the same ferocity we used facing the Germans and Japanese during WWII. Unconditional surrender.

Unfortunately, that will never happen. Too many eyes on the battlefield. We don't fight wars the way we used too. It's no longer a matter of closing with and engaging a uniformed enemy fighting for a belligerent government that you can either annihilate or force to surrender by bombing civilian populations and infrastructure to the point where they can no longer afford to fight. The enemy today doesn't have a clear identifier (none that the public will admit), AND... no one is going to bomb "all of them" in order to get "them" to surrender. No one has identified "them", because most westerners can't comprehend the motives of the enemy, for one. For two, they are ALL too afraid of sounding... take your pick: intolerant, racist, or any number of "-phobes". In WWII the enemy was clearly identified, as was their agenda and ideology. No one questioned what the motives were of Nazi Germany, and no one made excuses or apologies for them. No one questioned what the motives were of Imperialist Japan. Unfortunately, civilian casualties on both sides were astronomical. Short of an all out war against China, NK, or Russia... you will NEVER have warfare like WWII again. With no clearly defined enemy, no clearly defined ideology or enemy objective, you will always be fighting a defensive war, despite the occasional offensive strikes.

We have all been there while on deployment and the conversation come up "Would you leave yourself for capture or would you save the last bullet for yourself?" Seeing him alive for almost 2 mins makes me feels like saving the last round wouldn't be the worst choice of the two... I know many people would say "Well, kill them all and don't worry about it", in my MOS a meeting gone bad can seriously result in possible capture.

Good question Casey. Knowing what I know now, I would still use the last (on them), but die in the process. It this last video, the pilot almost looked like he was acting a role in the video. At that point, you have no know you are going to die. Before I go out via beheading or fire. I will bite, kick, scream, and scratch, until someone did me in the old fashion was.

That was my biggest fear in Iraq. I often had told myself that there is no way in hell I would be taken alive just to end up a f$%^ing youtube clip, either by my own hand or forcing theirs. God forbid, if they were successful in my capture, my intent was to fight to the end, bound/zip-tied or not. Kick, hell, BITE if necessary, but no way was I going to go out quietly on my knees with my head bowed. They would just have to shoot. I can only speculate, but maybe for some, knowing the futility of their circumstances they opted to face death stoically and with what they felt was dignity. Maybe to them fighting would look like cowardice. I think no one knows until they find themselves in it. I just knew that I would try to fight to survive with anything I had. Thankfully, it never came to that and me and my crew all came back.

I have not watched the video. Saw the atrocities first hand being medical we get all casualties... But I also do not believe it should be sensored.. What is the difference between the media showing the video or describing it to us and having commentators and specialists and experts constantly discuss it. Without showing it I think they are doing an injustice to the people in that they are not showing them the truth. The American people have been coddled and pampered so long that they honestly don't understand what we are up against... I say show it, show them in real life (memorex) what is really out there, this is not Hollywood but real life, people are being tortured and killed and this is what it looks like. Put out a warning so people have a choice to watch, switch the channel or send the kids out of the room, then show it in all it's glory!!! Let them see the truth for once, not the rose tinted world and other people's opinions... I say stop protecting the American people from the ugly truth so that they may actually let us protect them from the actual evil....

There are many images I can't get out of my head, but they only steeled my resolve. We were fed a LOT of cold-war BS about what to do if captured (humanize yourself with your enemy, etc.). That doesn't work with fundamentalists like these, because you aren't human to them. You're an infidel. Subject to conversion, the tax, or death. It was my view that I could never... NEVER allow myself, or my crew to consider capture as an option on the gamble that they MIGHT be able to survive it. With that off the table, the only option was full commitment. You were either going to fight to win or die IF it came to that. Luckily, it never did.

My understanding is that is was not the Jordanian pilot at all. Intelligence sources have said he was probably killed quite a while ago. Does that make a difference?

Sgt Nick Marshall, I believe it has been widely confirmed that it was the Jordanian pilot 1LT Moath Al Kasasbeh. He was most likely killed on or about 3 JAN 2015, however the amount of production time D'aesh put into creating and editing the video delayed its release until 3 FEB 2015.

In basic training we where shown a video of a beheading I can't remember his ethnicity I agree with showing recruits what could happen if captured. It did not create fear in me I just hated the enemy more

SSG (Join to see), thanks for your input. I am still curious though, do you disagree with the question, the subject matter, or is it something else?
