Agreed. My Brother is a 1Sgt in the Marines. My other brother is a WO in the army. I was in the army. I see that each branch generally has a different opinion.

That's dependent on service and MOS. As rule I would say commissioned officers, in the Marine Corps we have warrant officers: Infantry Weapons Officers or "Gunners". In order to even apply for the program you must be a Gunnery Sergeant with 15 years time in service, they start out as CWO2s. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more respected by all ranks than a Marine Gunner.

I'm in the navy but from working around and having marines in my family I say SNCO are because they have been then done that and still are getting down and dirty with them junior personal!! Yes some warrants will and maybe an officer here and there but mainly the SNCO!!!

I don't think you can just pick one. At every level, respect is earned, not given. From the PV1 to any of the GOs, respect is one thing you much earn from everyone. Sure, there are regulations that state you must respect the rank not the person wearing it but at the same time, how can you say one of the 3 groups you listed should be given more respect than the others? And what about the JRNCOs or Lower Enlisted? Some of them show more character, resolve, and other traits that should be respected and let's face it, with that lower enlisted Soldier, your job as a NCO would be a lot harder.

Hard question to comment on. I believe younger troops respect SNCO more, but envy officers more which could be construed as respect. In my experience with younger troops I got the feeling they felt officers had more privileges and an easier job, not realizing the responsibilities placed on them day to day. I think after getting more rank and being part of staff meetings, commanders call and the like, they gain more respect for each pne's position and rank.

The Senior NCOs are most respected. They have knowledge and a broad base of experience, are standard-bearers, and train and motivate their subordinates to get things done. While officers are the steering wheel, Senior NCOs are the engine.

WO's are previous SNCO's with further expertise and are experts in their field. However respect is earned not given. Rank don't mean a thing if you are a scumbag lol. I personally have had SM'S that were E2 and E3 that I respected more as a person than SNCO's. However I always respect higher ranks than myself.

SGT Chris Reese, most of the WOs I've met were helicopter pilots, and helicopters don't have to have been previously enlisted, much less a senior NCO. Some WOs came in right off the street, never having served before. Also, in my MOS (94D), we can become a warrant as a Sergeant (E-5) and we have to have been in the service for NO MORE THAN than 12 years, with the first year being AIT and BCT.

Other. I respect the leader willing to put their troops needs before themselves.
