I'm curious. You want to know the good and bad about Drum.....methinks because you don't know about the place....which is neither here nor there....so I have to ask...why are you reenlisting for Drum?

I will not go back to drum, I hate the cold weather, snow removal detail and being in the middle of nowhere... Syracuse is 1:20, being the closest airport... Fort Bliss is not bad, Hood is not that bad either but Drum, Irwin and Polk are the top 3 worst duty locations ever...

MSG (Join to see) - I did not, glad to be away from that place...the good thing about it, it was my OPS Team, Sidewinders...the best and craziest ever!!

SFC (Join to see) I was in the 58th CEC there. Barracks parties off the hook.

Worst part about Fort Drum is the winters, it gets very cold and lots of snow. If you enjoy deploying, fort drum is the most deployed base in the world.

Why are you re-enlisting for a place you don't know anything about?

How many Army Bases do you think an E-4 will have experienced? The only way to get a feel about the area is by talking to people that have been there. This soldier is an 11 Charlie, one thing I will say about Drum is that the 10th Mountain is a very, very good Infantry Unit and it won't hurt a career having that in your file.

CPT Lawrence Cable - Researching a location is something you do before you lock in for it. It has nothing to do with their first hand experience of a location as an E4. But putting the cart before the horse and signing for a duty station before research is done. That is just a bad choice.

It would be different if they were just tagged with random orders to a random location and were trying to sort things out. But when you have a golden ticket of sorts and cash it in on a mystery location that's an unnecessary gamble and risk.
