So in 2012 I was discharged from USMC w/ an OTH for drugs and a re code 4B. What are my chances of getting back in, specifically the Army?

Do folks not know what Google is anymore? You could have found this answer out within 30 seconds on Google. Or....did you find the answer....not like it and wanted to see if someone would tell you what you wanted to hear?

I agree with the others, your chances of getting back in are slim to none. Maybe that would not have been the case if you were asking this question 16 years ago. Now we are in a draw down of sorts where they do not have an urgent need for people. That makes a difference. The issue that the DOD sees is that they have minor drug issue already with people popping hot for it. You already proved once that you did it. They will look at the fact that prior to entry you were informed multiple times the severity of drug use once in.

You took a drug test at MEPS, you most likely took a drug test the day you arrived at basic training and you were routinely tested after the fact. We all have briefings and annual training on it and it should have been understood that using narcotics was not tolerable. That is how they are going to look at it. Lets say I am the approval authority. How can you convince me that you will never do it again if I approve your waiver? How do I know that if I let you back in that you will not have a lapse in judgement? Will you lose judgement, say you are out and about with friends and get intoxicated and someone lights a bowl and passes it around the room. How can I be assured other than your word that you will not lose that judgment and decide oh well I will take a small hit?

That is the way they are going to look at it. I hate say it, but there are irreversible consequences to our actions. There are things you do in life that close doors and lock them shut. Consider this, in some sense you are lucky. I know kids in the USAF that tried it once and got a summary court martial along with a bad conduct discharge. In some cases they had to do jail time for a few months. I would consider that fact as a second chance in life.
