Currently stationed at AFRICOM HQ in Stuttgart, Germany with two years left here. SSG (35F), 11 years TIS. I am also going to reenlist indefinitely this year. Looking to go Airborne and support SOCCENT. Can anyone point me in the right direction for first steps. Is there an application process like USASOC? Do I just speak with a career counselor?

SOCCENT has an individual who handles the slotting. There is not a packet or recruiting process like JSOC. Your branch manager has the contact information.
There are several reasons you won't get this as your next assignment though. First, your next assignment is limited by your DEROS. Second, it sounds like you are not airborne yet; the chance that will be your first Airborne assignment is almost zero.
Also, there is no duty station of choice in your final reenlistment. Your best option is to apply to the USASOC slating board later this year, earn your S identifier, and work your way in from there.

Ok, I guess it just depends on how lucky I get then. Had a SSG that left shortly after I arrived here at my current job and he got airborne and then SOCCENT when he PCS'd. How do I apply for the USASOC slating board? I have also sent an email to the 528th Sustainment brigade at Bragg a couple of weeks ago, and haven't heard jack. I realize that they have a bunch of emails that they need to get through.

It's not impossible, just incredibly unlikely.
528 can't help you with an assignment because their slotting I'd handled by the USASOC G1. USASOC G1 won't touch you until you are airborne qualified. Airborne branch however is capable of giving you orders for airborne TDY enroute. However, they will refer you through your branch.
If you are non promotable, a simple phone call can get you airborne and a USASOC assignment. Once you are promotable you have to apply to the slating board. The information is released by MILPER.

I see. I'm not promotable yet, so can I get the airborne enroute TDY in the works now so that when I leave in two years I'm good to go? Do you have the number to USASOC G1 that you can message me?

You have to go through your branch manager first and request airborne school. They will send you enroute to your next assignment that will be airborne. Since airborne branch oversees all the airborne slots, wherever they send you is where you go. After that assignment you can talk to airborne branch or USASOC G1 and request a SOF assignment.

Since SOCCENT is a Joint assignament you need to work it thru your branch manager. Some of those billeted are nominative and require a few additional steps than the normal assignament process: there is too much at stake so branch will screen and select the best for nomination. Yes, the gaining unit has an enormous vote on the process. No recruiting involved!

You can talk to your career counselor. They will mostly be able to help you with getting airborne. Your branch manager can help facilitate that process as well. Soccent however is not something you can reenlist for. It's special operations command and normally there is an application process involved. I would start with getting in touch with with a soc recruiter and they should be able to get the process started and point you in the right direction. Hope that helps you out a little.
