Please tell me that nobody finds this to be an acceptable way to joke around. I am one of the most humor filled people around, but some things are sacred to me and should not be messed with. This is one of them.

Not so much social media for me, but camera phones...scanning and uploading photos was so much more time consuming!

The key issue is that this should have never been put on a system that is a matter of public availability and record.  That was the dumbest thing they could do.
Honestly, I have been on funeral honors and some of the comments in the TMP van on the way to the funeral or back can be off-color.  Most of them concern the dress and physical characteristics of some of the mourners present.  However, everyone I've ever known is all business and 100% when it comes to the actual ceremony.
It is one thing to joke about dorking up a funeral, it is another to actually do it out of malice/incompetence.  It's akin to threatening your battle's testes and life for a perceived slight and then actually shooting them during a firefight.
Worlds apart.

Ma'am, you are 100% right.  It is disgusting that people would think it would be funny to pose around a coffin the way they are.  Even if this is a practice coffin and there is no one in it, the fact they are disrespecting the flag is enough.  Plus they need to train how they want to fight.  If they will have that kind of irreverence during their training, they will not be truly reverent when they perform an actual mission.  These are the same types that would make naked human pyramids with detainees.

There has been an outbreak of stupidity recently that boggles my mind. We (the royal we) are clearly seeing the results of letting so many questionable people into our military during recent years. The need for manpower trumped the need to adhere to

stricter screening standards, and those who entered our fraternity with little or no character are now NCOs responsible for carrying on our traditions and honoring our heritage. The military is scrambling to reduce spending. I have identified not less than 15 candidates for reprograming to civilians immediately.

The army my dad joined 60 years ago would not have allowed this to exist.

Sad day in America when those who are supposed to defend freedom sink to this level.

Can this please be the straw that breaks the camels back, and that the Army begins to look at its disciplinary problem as serious. We need to not only give some fangs to our NCO's, we need policies and officers that encourage them to bite when necessary.

I thankful that they got wind of this. I have had some funeral details come at very, very inopportune times, but I still did them with a great passion for doing the right thing for the family and rendering honors in the most military and professional manner possible. This behavior is unacceptable and I hope that the WI Guard is able to get to the bottom of this.

An aviator in my state used to live in Wisconsin and was TAGs driver. She's contacted the entire senior staff on this issue. I think that's a good start. And the FB community is up in arms about this, especially the combat vets.

When a Major General has to publicly apologize for your actions, you know you're in trouble.

There will be no justice until these individuals are removed from uniform. There are even Stripes in that photo out of the 12 or so people did anyone even have the split second where they were like is this not right. I have been on funeral detail before in the rain and miserable weather but never once did I complain. I see it as honor to be selected for such a detail. As someone that has lost numerous brothers in arms this makes me sick to my stomach. It is a shame that some feild grade officer has to come out and put his name on something like this because it is his job.

This sort of thing just tops the already staggering pile of crap within our ranks today. You look at the news, the social media and even here on rallypoint and ever other discussion is about the decline in our morals, values and disciple. It starts with Soldiers and NCOs that don't even care about the uniform they are wearing looking sharp and correct. So why would they care about someone who died wearing that uniform. We have lost a our brotherhood. Many Soldiers nowadays find their military service to that of being employed at any regular job. It is a 9-5 employment that should not leak into their personal lives. Many Soldiers see their superiors not as leaders and mentors, but employers, they don't see fellow Soldiers as comrades and brothers/sisters in arms, but fellow employees and they do not see what they do as service to be proud of and thankful for, but as a pay check and a place to take, take, take as many possible benefits as they can while giving the minimal effort back.

It is not enough to just punish them! They should be made to issue public statements of apology on national television to SOMEWHAT correct this wrong. Then recommend the max, bust them all to E-1 and dishonorably discharge them NCOS, Officers and soldiers alike anyone "in the know". Hell disband the whole got-damn unit if you ask me!

I did funeral detail for over 6 months in Texas from 110 degrees to 20 degrees and it actually snowed that year, never once did I EVER shirk my duties! why? because DEATH is much more agonizing than any weather we encountered, but most importantly HONOR and RESPECT for my fellow soldiers.

I would be an E-1 tomorrow if these were my subordinates!
