I'm a power generation equipment repairer (91D) and I love my job. I'm interested in stepping up and trying out for a Special Operations position. Being an SF Operator has always been a dream of mine but I recently came across an article about 160th. This attracted my attention because I love the Ordnance Corps, especially electrical troubleshooting and circuitry and would love to work on Army Helicopters. Any advice or experience out there in the RP world? I've also thought about group but I'm not sure how to get attached to get orders to SF Group. I feel that both can set me up to do well as a civilian once I retire.

If you plan to stay a 91D, I would recommend connecting with other 91Ds in USASOC. Ask them both how they got their job, and also how they like it. That should help you decide on what you should strive for. Here are a few 91Ds I found in USASFC by using the RallyPoint Advanced Search:<div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="https://www.rallypoint.com/assets/public/video-iconpng_03-e2f2d395f39314aeff [login to see] 66a5.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/profiles/134737-91d-power-generation-equipment-repairer-gsb-1st-sfg-a"> at GSB, 1st SFG(A) | Military Profile | RallyPoint</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">See the full military profile of this at GSB, 1st SFG(A), stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA | RallyPoint professional military profile.</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="https://www.rallypoint.com/assets/public/video-iconpng_03-e2f2d395f39314aeff [login to see] 66a5.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/profiles/126258-91d-power-generation-equipment-repairer-4th-bn-5th-sfg-a">Generator Mechanic at 4th BN, 5th SFG(A) | Military Profile | RallyPoint</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">See the full military profile of this Generator Mechanic at 4th BN, 5th SFG(A), stationed at Fort Campbell, KY | RallyPoint professional military profile.</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="https://www.rallypoint.com/assets/public/video-iconpng_03-e2f2d395f39314aeff [login to see] 66a5.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/profiles/49154-91d-power-generation-equipment-repairer-hsc-1st-bn">Generator Mechanic at HSC, 1st BN | Military Profile | RallyPoint</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">See the full military profile of this Generator Mechanic at HSC, 1st BN, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC | RallyPoint professional military profile.</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="https://www.rallypoint.com/assets/public/video-iconpng_03-e2f2d395f39314aeff [login to see] 66a5.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/profiles/10309-91d-power-generation-equipment-repairer-4th-bn-10th-sfg-a"> at 4th BN, 10th SFG(A) | Military Profile | RallyPoint</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">See the full military profile of this at 4th BN, 10th SFG(A), stationed at Fort Carson, CO | RallyPoint professional military profile.</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

Go do SFAS while you can; the need for the Army is great right now. They are going to essentially choose what field they want you in, but after introduction and B Team time, schools, etc... A Team is where you'll want to be. This will make your forget about being a 91D, as you've just been introduced to it really.
Being in a GSB isn't that great and you'll typically work for a soft skill MOS and not a hard charger that want's to blow shit it. If not go to Airborne school and I'm sure you'll meet a SF recruiter. Take your physical and do your PT test with a SF recruiter, get a letter or two of recommendation in your file and this will assist you. Do the 91D thing as a hobby if you love it that much.
1/60th is cool, but a very selective community with limited slotting for 91D.
Best thing to do, is find a SOC recruiter
