You may have seen my face on a lot of questions lately and it's only because I'm really determined to become a Ranger. I've asked a lot of people. I just want tips and opinions from a lot of people. If you have anything, I'd be happy to use it.

Don't break yourself before you get there. So, be careful when you ruck. Regimental standard is 4mph pace with 35lb ruck plus water, FLC, and rifle . Be able to run 5 miles in 40 minutes after running a mile and a half to get to the run. Be able to max the APFT plus at least 6 pull-ups after running half a mile to the test and doing some pushups and flutter kicks before that. Stew Smith has good material. After you've gone to all the trouble to switch services and get your contract, don't screw it up by doing something stupid. A lot of guys get dropped for bad decisions who could otherwise have graduated.

Thanks man, good advice. I have a lot of time to prepare so I should be ok. Don't worry about me doing stupid shit, I don't have time for that. I have a wife and kids, I can't afford to risk everything for temporary fun.

Do a lot of ruck marches and get your feet tough. Don't want blisters in Ranger school. Also know all infantry core skills.

HN Avery - if you're a FMF corpsman, where are you stationed? Are there any MARSOC/Force RECON types near you that may allow you to PT with them and provide you some PT pointers on what it takes to be a part of the SOF community?
Also - I would be mentally prepare myself for the moment if your DD 368 (conditional release) request gets denied, which in this case, I would imagine it would. How much longer do you have on your enlistment?

I do have Recon near me that I can talk, that is a great idea sir. I have roughly 2 years left and I am fine if the request gets denied. If I have to wait then I will wait, but I'm not going to just walk away from this.

I like the fact you're moto about the Ranger batt idea. Stay focused, serve your time in the Navy honorably and in the mean time, continue to improve your physical fitness - and I would start talking to an Army recruiter about 90-120 days out from your ETS date for the Navy to ensure they have Ranger option contracts available to prior service. If not, then opt for 18x (Special Forces contract) - even if you fail the 18x pipeline, you'll go to an infantry unit and still have the option to volunteer for RASP.
On a side note, going from the Navy to the Army isn't that hard ;)

I appreciate it sir. I'd say the motivation is from having a history of Special Forces in my family. They remind me everyday to do everything to the max of my ability, and even past that, and remember failure is never an option. I appreciate the help sir. I will most certainly go 18x.
Also, I know its not hard to go from the Navy to the Army. :D

Pushups - as many as you can (80+)
Situps - as many as you can (80+)
2 mile run - as fast as you can (sub 13 min)
What you need to be concentrating on is getting yourself administratively qualified....
What type of ranger do you want to be??
In the past ive seen:
11Xop40 (what you thing ranger is)
25Bop40
92Fop40
92Gop40...
The list goes on,
Just because you want to be a ranger, in what CMF (Careere Managment Field) do you want to Ranger-UP in?

I specifically want Airborne Ranger, so I guess Infantryman. I'm okay with being a Combat Medic Ranger as well, but I'd prefer just standard Infantry Ranger.

HN (Join to see) - At that rate id sugest SF (18x) cause if you fail out, you go to 11 series. Sf is +1 to ranger.

I do not intend to fail out SSG. Just not an option. So is SF (18x) the CMF or is that something I'd tell the recruiter?

If you want combat, then sf. Ranger is training. Ranger dosn't gaurntee a position in Ranger bn. Even SF you have to make it throu peer selection. You could go all the way and be peered out. Bac to infanty land you go.
