In accordance with ALARACT 082/2014 States that all tattoos will be photographed and recorded with a memorandum for record and placed on your IPERMS and OMPF within 30-60 days from AR 670-1 release.
Do you think Senior selections boards will discriminate against Soldier with sleeves or Tattoos ?
Will this become a tool to discriminate NCOs for MSG and above?
What are your thoughts?

my main question is if a soldier has not been recorded..the commander has not given the memorandum or a counseling statement on these new regulations as of 15 sept 2014, what could stop a soldier from getting his or her sleeve complete?if there is no proof and the commander has yet to do his job as stated in the regulations, is this a failure on the soldier or more of a fail for the company commander in charge?

That is the only reason they are doing it is to discriminate against those that have them because if you get one now they can give you an article 15 if the feel like it. It is discrimination all the way next they will say you can't have hair and what color your skin will have to be.

SFC Cardenas,

I can't say weather it will or will not hurt you. I can say that within the last ten years tattoos have become more and more popular in the ranks, there are a good amount of Soldiers sporting multiple tattoos. A lot of these soldiers will one day be the ones on those boards. The Military has to have a way to weed out the "bad boys" (and girls) and this; in their eyes is a great way to do that.

It's a phase, just wait for the next war and they will be begging those same guys they kicked out to come back and fight and die for them because their pretty boy sons are too scared.

I do not believe it will be used to discriminate but to control. Hard to figure out if that tattoo was new or old unless it is documented. I believe during boards this data will be masked.

I find this quite confusing - Why would you already be doing memorandums and photos when AR670-1 has not been released? The ALARACT clearly gave a timeline for when these things will be put into effect, but it's based on XX number of days AFTER the regulation is released. Not now.

It is not initiative! They have not given any guidance on how to take the picture and how to show the measurement of the tattoo. It is too hasty to start doing it withing your command because it is not in affect do to limited guidance
