I am attending AIT to reclass in October. The school is roughly 5 and a half months long, I am trying to figure out if it will be tdy en-route or tdy and return to current station and clear post at that time. Thanks in advance for any help.

This was the school you reenlisted for, correct? The school will be TDY enroute, unless it's a PCS length school. If it's a PCS length school, your orders will have the school as your duty station. If it's TDY enroute, your orders will be for your next duty station with the school dates written within the orders. If it's multiphase training, your orders will be for your phase 2 location.
As a rile of thumb, almost always TDY enroute. It's only TDY and return if your unit pays for the school.
However, at your levy brief you can designate that you want to return to clear afterwards. That is TDY enroute with authorized return to clear.

What does your orders state? If they do not clearly state that, perhaps jump to your S1 and get clarification

I haven't got my orders yet due to the fact that I am still down range and I'm waiting on my unit to send me home. I have to wait until I get back to go to my levy brief

SPC (Join to see) - Ah. Chances are, you may very well be TDY En Route. But you will certainly get a solid answer when you attend your Levy Brief.

There is a very solid chance that it will be a TDY and return. I am doing the same for a six-month school that I'm going to. It should have been a PCS but the Army is not letting anybody PCS right now. The only way people are getting TDY in route is if the Army knows their next duty station before they even start the TDY. You're probably going to have to go down there to your school and come back to clear your base and then PCS.

Like SFC Jason Boyd stated, it will almost always be TDY enroute with a reclassification request. I've reclassed twice and both were TDY enroute. Just expect and plan for TDY enroute. Best of luck.

What MOS are you reclassing to? A lot of medical MOS' have Phase 1 and Phase 2. For instance, when I reclassed to 68WM6 (68C now) I went TDY and return for Phase 1 for 8 weeks, returned and PCSed to my Phase 2 for 46 weeks.

I am reclassing to 14E Patriot Fire Control Enhanced Operator/Maintainer. The class length is 19 weeks and 3 days.

From what I've seen with the guys I have had reclass, it depends on both your unit, your report date, and the individual school. Some of them want you to take TDY en-route, but others don't. Same goes for units on both ends.

Do you have orders yet? what do they say?
Are you due to PCS?
Is the new MOS available and in need at your current duty station?
Have you asked your retention NCO?
Have looked at the ATTRS catalog for that school when done for reclass?

Korea?
Damn. If I was in your shoes, I would push for the TDY enroute. Being a single guy your HHG's shouldn't be excessive but they can ship your stuff while you are attending school.
Let me address the Elephant in the room though. Should you not graduate the course, will you still ship to Korea? I mean you ABSOLUTELY NO ills nor bad Karma but medical shit happens, etc....

MSG Pat Colby - an excellent point though my experience was TDY in route as part of the PCS, if the servicemember failed to complete retraining or granted the newly required clearance they ship anyway and were assigned duties of the previous MOS

MSG Pat Colby - Negative I would not , my assignment is based on me graduating with my new mos

SPC (Join to see) - With this information, common sense would dictate not sending your HHG's. Your orders should read TDY and return to clear post. Good luck in your new MOS and I hope you have a great time at school and in Korea!
