So I was thinking about this, but have some obstacles with it. I want to make a FB group or website or such for my local area, I want to connect unemployed vets with people who need day labor or short term labor. Not a full blown placement agency, not looking to place perm jobs, just temp work. The place I am having an issue with is do I need to deal with drug tests and background checks? Do I try to get comp for that? is it expensive? I wanted to make this as free for everyone. Opinions please.

Fort Huachuca has a FB page that posts jobs drawn from simply hired. You could contact their administrators and ask how they handle the posting. https://www.facebook.com/fthuachucajobs

Usually the companies that veterans would potentially be placed with would pay for such kind of service because the companies want this service to keep their high standards of background checks and drug screening. I would chat with a few potential employers and get their feeling on this subject. Good luck and I think this would be such a great thing for veterans.

What does the VFW or American Legion in your area have to offer you for assistance? Is there a Kelly services around? I use linked in to keep in contact with my soldiers as they get out. I actively look for matches and easter eggs for them as I do my searches. I even found a job for a laid off I.T. guy from Florida that I play an online game with. I just gave him that little nugget that he needed.

I am a firm believer that nobody will help us more than us. If you have looked the person in the eye at some point in your career, we as a collective group owe it to each other to continue, watching each others backs. Every tree starts as a small seed and if we can create these networks in our areas and remain in contact then our network can be more productive than those who get kick backs for hiring vets. Then laying them off after 18 months.

The veteran network needs to be ALL of us coming together for a better future.
Here are some companies that constantly require seasonal help, UPS, RPS, Fed EX, AVON, any shopping mall or fast food establishment, Landscaper/Lawn service, city parks and recreation centers, waste management, just to name a few. These are seasonal , but they include ALL seasons.

Good luck and I am more than willing to assist anyone with a search as I am completing mine.
