Hi, I have a question about Champ VA insurance and my VA hospital in Houston. I've been blessed with wonderful doctors at this hospital and they told me that if I got Champ VA insurance for my wife , that she would be able to use the hospital facilities and the doctors. So, we applied, but for some reason never received the membership card. When I finally got it, it showed Kim was a member since Oct. 24, 2017. Well, it seems that in April of 2018, the director of the hospital made a ruling that their can not be any new family members coming in using the facilities. I wrote him an email clearly showing that she was already a member BEFORE the change and that I felt she should be "grandfathered" in. He said no and basically told me to find doctors outside the hospital. He basically blew me off. So, my question is, why can't my wife use the VA hospital here in Houston, since she was already a Champ VA member?

Not sure, who to ask this question to, but I have been 100 percent VA disabled since around 2014 and have tried three times two with a social security attorney and one without. I have had hearings with three judges in Texas and have been denied social security disability benefits all three times. On my last try the Judge was favorable, however, the medical expert from social security pretty much stated, I was not disabled and it was all in my head. The social security office claims it doesn't matter if the VA rates me as permanitly disabled they will decide without the VA letter supporting their decision. On my last attempt, my psychologist, psychiatrist and local family doctor wrote letters stating my condition kept me from gainful employment. With the VA letter stating I was permanently disabled and unable to work due to my service connected disabilities and three letters from doctors treating me stating I am unable to work due to my medical condition and my wife's testimony in support, I was still denied social security disability. A social security disability attorney stated that texas was the hardest state to get approved for social security disability. Apparently, if you have been out of work for over 10 years, which I have due to my condition, one can not apply for social security disability any more until I build more work credit. So I can't even keep trying. I am so frustrated with the support the Texas social security office gives to permanity disabled veterans. I have no other way or know how to get approved for social security disability. Any help you can provide in this area for a disabled veteran living in Texas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. My email is [login to see] for follow up.

Is there anyone to fight for widows, who are able to use their late veteran spouse 100% for property tax purposes, coming from another state. I moved here from Georgia, (my husband passed away in the state of Ga). I received 100% off the property tax, I moved here to Texas, and there is no reciprocity. How can I get help with furthering this?

WOW! I have had conversation with a representative from Rep. Ed. Thompson's office. Ms. Brandy Groth, and of course it didn't get anywhere. She pretty much just gave my information to a Veteran who is already 100%, and then listening to him tell me what to do for my own disability increase. Additionally, there is another widow in my same neighborhood, who I happen to meet is in the same predicament. (moving from another state to Tx, and being denied of reciprocity of this benefit).

I appreciate your response back, and if there is anything I can do, to not only help myself, but others that are in the same position, let me know.

My question is in regard to caregivers and the way they are treated by VA administrative and medical personnel. My spouse is my caregiver, which means that she is more than just my driver. I need to be reminded to take my medications regularly, and to be monitored for adverse reactions. When medical personnel are explaining the results of tests that have been performed and treatment options based on those tests, my wife needs to be included in the discussion. Recently, on several different occasions with several treatment teams, my wife felt ignored by care providers who only wanted to discuss matters with me as the patient. Caregivers are vital to successful outcomes, especially as more care is performed on an outpatient, telephonic basis. Belittling my caregiver is not good for my
health. Why isn't the VA sending out memos and requiring online training that emphasizes the importance of caregivers, and why isn't there required documentation on the patient chart that puts the caregiver in his or her proper place: right on top of the chart?

Good afternoon SP5 Mann, you can contact your assigned social worker and find out if you qualify for Dental care based on your service-connected rating. Please read the blog with additional information about what Disabled Veterans is eligible for dental benefits. https://militaryconnection.com/blog/how-do-i-know-if-i-am-eligible-for-va-dental-care-benefits/#:~:text=Anyone%20who%20can%20provide%20and%20maintain%20a%20dentition,determined%20by%20the%20VA%20Regional%20Office%20Rating%20Decision.

How Do I Know If I Am Eligible for VA Dental Care Benefits?
Who is eligible for dental care?
There are 9 different classes of eligibility when it comes to dental care benefits for veterans. Although many people have endeavored to make this easier through their veterans benefits guides, it can still be difficult to navigate these classes. I have stripped away the convoluted language to make them very easy to understand.
Class I
Anyone with a dental disability or condition covered through a connected service is eligible for the necessary dental care of this disability and condition.
Class II
Anyone who did not receive a full dental examination and any appropriate treatment upon learning the results of the examination is eligible for one-time care with their unsigned DD214 Certificate of Discharge.
Class IIA
Anyone who can provide and maintain a dentition that is fully maintained, as with Dental Trauma Rating 10-564-D, that also has a noncompensable dental condition or resulting disability as a direct result of their time spent in service is eligible for necessary dental care as determined by the VA Regional Office Rating Decision.
Class IIB
Anyone who is enrolled under VHA Directive 2007-039 as a care receiving or homeless veteran, and who has a medically necessary procedure that will treat gum conditions, relieve pain, or assist with obtaining gainful employment may be eligible for a one-time care to correct this problem.
Class IIC
Anyone who was ever made a prisoner of war is eligible for any necessary dental care.
Class IV
Anyone who has a disability that rates 100% on the disabling scale that occurred during your time of service is eligible for the necessary care and relief. Unemployed and unpaid veterans who are unemployed or unpaid as a direct result of this disability also qualify.
Class V
Any veteran who can meet the criteria of their 38 USC Chapter 31 vocational rehabilitation program while participating in it is eligible for necessary dental work.
Class VI
Anyone who is currently receiving, or scheduled to receive, inpatient care of any kind that would be adversely affected or complicated because of an oral condition is entitled to the necessary dental care to treat the potential complication before receiving that inpatient care. A VA dental professional can make that assessment.

What if I don’t qualify for those benefits?
There are some additional options available for people who don’t qualify for direct VA benefits. The National VA Dental Insurance Program will still provide dental insurance to Veterans through their Civilian Health and Medical Program. This works like regular dental insurance (with a copay and monthly payments) but it is drastically discounted in an effort to make it affordable for Veterans. This program includes surgery, restoration, emergency, and preventative care as well as endodontics.

How come the VA is not recognizing MST as an injury during inactive duty for training when it states in several places on va.gov that MST is an exception for disability benefits for mental health for a traditional guard veteran.

Hello SrA Olson,
You can go to any VAMC, however, you must state that you are seeking mental health treatment based on an MST that you experienced while on duty. Did this event take place during drill status? If you were getting paid and on duty status you need to file a claim. You can reach out to us at [login to see] if you have any further questions. You can also go to http://www.VA.gov/vso/ and look for an accredited representative in your area that can assist you.
