While the new war is raging on in the Middle East the bonds of allies and enemies is becoming more murky than the black water of eastern North Carolina.

As it stands we support Iraq. So does Iran. We don't support Iran. Syria is fighting ISIS. We are raging a proxy war against Syria. Iran supports Syria. We also are fighting ISIS along with Iraq, Iran, Syria but we don't support any of them but Iraq. The rebels in the region are also fighting Syria and ISIS at the same time. We support them but some of them are kinda ISIS. ISIS is just about the only one that has the firepower that is need to overthrow the Syrian government but we don't want ISIS to do this. We want someone else to do this. If we kill off all of ISIS Syria will wrap out the rest of the rebels we are supporting instead of fighting ISIS.

To further complicate this Assad protects the Christians in his country while ISIS will drive them out or kill them. There is no promise of safety if Syria falls.

This makes sense right? How do we get out of this mess where there are really no winners and just more war?

We have not learned that we don't need to be involved in every fight. We've also not learned that the enemy of my enemy is not always my friend.

It's a lesson we've re-learned over and over again. After all, Osama Bin Laden was our ally against the Russians.

I would agree. I tend to believe we support some questionable groups in order to gain short term support. In the long run it back fires.

This whole thing makes my head hurt. No matter what choice we make we either turn our backs on an allie, and aid an enemy, or we destroy an enemy and hurt an allie.

We have to let the dust clear a bit and see what is the result. Everyone at least agrees that ISIS needs to go.
