These are some interesting points in the debate over military pay and allowances. Are the pay raises we've seen in the past sustainable? Would you support lower pay raises as some senior leaders have suggested?

How much lower can we go?  We are already sub 1%.  Anything lower is negligible.

1% doesn't even keep place with inflation but some folks think that is too much.

I don't see our 1% pay raises increasing any time soon.  Certainly not until we have finished with the current downsize.  Lower pay raises... 1% is a pittance and I don't know what less than that is.  I probably wouldn't even notice on my LES.

But maybe just enough to put you in a higher tax bracket. Wouldn't that be lovely?

Not at all. Our Leaders are losing touch with us. Regardless of what our Leaders do, we need to take ownership of our financial future. That is why I wrote my book http://www.WagingWaronDebt.com to equip our Military to kill debt & create wealth. A simple 10 Step Battle Plan to Lasting Financial Freedom.

Personally I don't have a serious issue with getting a 1% raise annually, I would always take more. It is minor to say the least but it is more of a pay bump than many civilians get in the private sector. Most of them will only get a pay raise once every several years. Mind you that when they get that pay raise it is equal to more that the 1% annually.

My biggest problem is when they give a 1% raise or less and raise taxes by 2%. Like they did a couple years ago. We all took a pay cut that year. Thanks Congress.

Our military is under paid, supplied and put in situations to decide to order ammo or food at times. Congress why don't you take a pay cut and keep paying the people that are in the front lines fighting everyday. Also Congress if you want the military medical and other benefits to be cut then you should have to use the same benefits as we do. I love my country and if I could fight again I would volunteer in a heartbeat.

The people making these suggestions (Congress, etc.) should be forced to live under the same conditions with the same pay rate and benefits as the ones who will be ultimately, negatively effected by these changes.
