Russia is a vast land containing rich natural resources and is sparsely populated. China is relatively small in size, depleted, and vastly overpopulated. The fact that these two share a common border is an invitation to conflict. The only questions are when and will the US involve itself?

China is the fourth largest country in the world and only 88,676 sq.mi. smaller than the United States of America. That's less that Oregon (96,003 sq.mi.) but more than Idaho (82,751 sq.mi.)
Admittedly Russia IS 1.779 times as large as China, but Russia is also 1.738 times as large as the United States of America and China is 97.663% as large as the US. The 2.337% difference in size between the US and China is not "statistically significant" (on a "one tailed" test you'd have to have a difference of 10% or more - and "area" falls into the "one tailed" test realm).
