What are your thoughts about the use of the ACU uniform when attending public events or events in the public eye, especially when you are representing the Army to the public? For instance recruiters, using ACU's instead of wearing Class B's (like they used too), or to things like escorting a fallen soldier off the aircraft. Do you think the ACU is appropriate for all occasions, or should a service uniform be used to present a more professional and sharper appearance when representing the Army? What are your thoughts?

Just to date myself, as a Private, two pairs of ACU-type uniforms were issued to us by the Supply SGT just before we went out to the field and turned back in as part of our recovery process.  We wore utilities (AG-415) in garrison for everyday duties and wasn't allowed to attend off-base events unless we wore Class A or B Uniforms. I don't see anything wrong with a 1SG and Commander implementing the same thing to their Troopers.
My concern though, is what's under the uniform. We need to start from the inside out. Discipline and physical fitness. I get infuriated seeing a fat body in a set of ACUs out in public gobbling down a triple combo cheeseburger with some cheesy fries and swilling it down with a diet cola.
I guess the BLUF is that I'm okay with ACUs in public if they're worn by an in-shape, hard as nails Soldier that projects the quiet confidence of a professional...
This is the Army, the greatest institution in the world and we need to start acting like it.  We have no place in it for fat, lazy or indiscipline Soldiers.

I think it depends on the situation. but I do agree that Bs and As should be worn during some events. They show class, our traditions, and if fitted right, can make the soldier! I also think it depends on the intent. Is it to show ruggedness or formality?

Situation should dictate, I believe the ASU should be used in escorting our fallen not ACU's.  Recruiters I am on the fence with because the "B" Uniform I believe should be used, however the ACU is a better tool for the young man or woman wanting to enlist.  Apperancewise the "B" and ASU are excellent because they are professional, the ACU is apealing because young recruits want to see that camo.  good question, you have me swinging from both sides of the plate!

I dunno, CSM Poll, the recruiters showing up to my high school in their service uniforms and not cammies made a darned good impression on myself and a good number of my peers. "'Lady killer' uniforms and chest candy? Where can I get mine?!"

Then again, I'm Navy. If my recruiter would have shown up in the old-style Navy dungarees (bell-bottomed pants and blue chambray shirts), I might have joined another branch of service!
