Are you talking about a disability decision you just received from the VA or trying to get a higher evaluation for old service connected disability? The process for each is different.

If you just received a new disability decision from the VA and think you should be rater higher than what the VA rated the disability you can:
a. submit new medical evidence (medical records) for he VA to consider, or
b. if the decision is less than one year old (date on VA letter informing you of the decision) you can file a Notice of Disagreement (NOD). The NOD is the 1st the appeal process and the appeal can take
three year or more to resolve.

If you have an existing disability that you believe has gotten worse you can file a claim for a higher evaluation for that condition. If you have an e-benefits account you file the claim on line.

If you are overseas the best way to resolve your issue is filing your claim or appeal on line thru e-benefits. (http://www.ebenefits.va.gov). E-benefits can be used to upload medical records and VA DBQ examinations you have your private doctor fill out. These DBQ examination work sheets can be found on line.

I retired ten years ago with a 30% rating. I was told that I should probably submit for a re-evaluation. But I've lived overseas for the past ten years. I've just never gotten around to doing it. now that I am looking into, it, it seems quite difficult to do unless you are in the U.S.

You can file your claim for a higher evaluation on line. Establish an e-benefits account, navigate thru and complete VA Form 21-526EZ. Download the VA DBQ exam form for the disability you want to be evaluated. Have you Doctor fill it out & then upload the completed exam to e-benefits.

You should have an assigned VSO Veterans Service Officer yout contact and request an Compensation or Pension Exam Increase on Service Related Disability. Your last letter awarding you your disability percentage should name one.

Sir, In regards to getting reassessed for your VA Disability Rating you need to go through the Pittsburgh, PA VA Regional Office and the VA Medical Center of which you can contact the following VA Employee Mary Pilarski @ [login to see] . Pittsburgh PA handles most of the overseas veterans other than the Seattle, WA VA & they cover the middle east & they can be contacted @ [login to see] . You can also call/text/chat via with the Veterans Crisis Line and let them know what you are looking for and they can do a consult for you. This would be the fastest way to get in touch with them. I know how this system works I retired from there.

Not sure if you saw my earlier post. Get with the Embassy, Federal Benifits section. If there isn't something already in place the doctors the Embassdor DS employees use may be trained in the US or have equivalent training that the VA will accept. If not the nearest VA regional Office is in the Philippines. I am a VFW Dept. Of Pacific Areas Assistant Service Officer. If there is anything I can do to help my email is [login to see]

The best way is to go to a VA hospital and seek out DAV rep or an Order of the Purple Heart rep or a Marine League rep and they will assist you with the bins and it's. It does not matter which US service you were in or if you received a Purple Heart, they are not associated with the VA hospitals and are there to help all Vets

They don't have VA reps in New Zealand. That's the challenge I'm facing.

Maj, I started my retirement process with the DAV at the VA in San Diego. They took a copy of my military medical record and got the ball rolling. Received my disability rating, which is more than likely higher than I could have done myself. I don't know if all VA have a DAV in the building, but it might be worth checking out. VA in Topeka, KS takes very good of me and I believe it started with the DAV. I'm now a life member of DAV. Good luck.
