What blew my mind was how long they lasted. One time it lasted 12 hours, at least the wind part of it.

I know what you mean. What amazed me the first time I experienced one was the fact that couldn't see past my own nose. There was zero visibility.

Had one come in during R&R in Kuwait. We waited 2 days before we could fly out back to Afghanistan.

I have to start off, unfortunately, I don't have any photos, but it looked like a very wide, and tall of course, tornado of just orange and tan. It was 50+ kt winds and it was a really nasty storm. That was only about a week ago.

Never a sand storm, but I've been in the Bering Sea during a 100 year storm, during which I seriously thought I had the farm all paid for.
