Reading, Riting, Rithemitic were the core substance for education long, long before I was born. But I was taught under that tutelage. It has given me a strong command of language, script, and numbers. I can read whole lines for understanding without looking up each word, I can cursive, print, and draw, I can do basic arithemitic in my head. But, the new learners have computers doing it all. Many current generation learners do not know how to step back and problem solve something as basic as finding a different word to describe a concept. It took me fifteen minutes to fashion this question so I could get the question mark applied. I had to change phrases and words around to meet the space requirement. Our new learners are not getting strong basic concepts to build on.

Good evening my friend PO3 Phyllis Maynard. In classic education logic was a principal course of instruction which underpins both writing and arthritic and mathematics.
Applying logic helps people read with understanding and identify good and poor propositions and arguments.
Inductive and deductive reasoning are critical tools for navigating life and wading through the bombardment of data through various media outlets from "news" to social media. :-)
I submit that an understanding of logic and how to apply it may well be the most useful education tool after learning one or more languages.

I agree that those foundational tools are necessary for understanding information presented, to allow the individual to make an informed decision as to the credibility of the claims in an article, or speech. Each individual would be better served by maintaining a neutral stance on information, and let the only leaning of it be decided by one's own analysis and comprehension.
The Internet has made more information available at a much faster rate. However, there is an increased need to be able to identify and filter purely biased information.

My dad said when computers came out that people's minds would turn to mush, I personally don't think that it's happened yet, but if people keep relying on them it might happen.
