As has been said in other discussions on this and related issues, the actions are totally appropriate.
For those who concealed carry and just occasionally go onto base, be aware that it is a no-no and a big deal. Like potentially career-ending big.

CWO2 S R I am not sure the exact legal penalties, but I would expect that someone would be looking at a a GO LOR at the minimum.
CWO2 S R General Officer Letter of Reprimand. Basically, an O7 or above written reprimand that ends up in your personnel file. Given the current drawdown, I would just about guarantee it would end most careers.
I very much wish that weren't true, but is something I have had to remind myself of regularly for many years. As a drilling reservist, I carried almost every day, just disarming on those occasions when I knew I would be going onto base. Pretty much my only beef with my current ADOS gig is that I now go around disarmed all the time...
