Are you sure you aren't referencing a Duffle Blog article? Is this the "Toxic" pool you mean?

"WASHINGTON — Hundreds of soldiers who were stationed at Camp Arifjan over the last decade are set to receive Purple Hearts due to their exposure to dangerous levels of chlorine at the base swimming pool, Pentagon officials report."

SGT Jennie Washington - When most people see an article that is too crazy to believe, the first response is usually to see if it is from the Duffle Blog or from the Babylon Bee. If it is, you can safely disbelieve it and just enjoy the laugh (although the stories do have a grain of truth in them).

I have an Air Force retired (Cpt. Nurse) who now works for the VA come to my house once a month to check on me. Maybe you should get a Purple Heart if you suffered medically over burn pits. She told me about a Nurse who was awarded a Bronze Star for teaching Afghan women to play volleyball. She was disgusted as I was.

I was at Arifjan. What toxic pool do you speak of? Purple Hearts are not given for this. If someone got one for exposure, then someone pencil whipped documents and went against the regulations. AR 600-8-22.

That sounds like some urban legend stuff right there. Purple Hearts are awarded for injuries, not for being exposed to possibly injurious conditions
