Transferring from active duty to Reserve or guard component?

I am currently active duty needing to transfer to National Guard or Reserve. My primary reason is due to a family hardship relating to my disabled mother who's gone through 4 surgeries and unable to take care of herself properly at this time. Her lifestyle is unstable, and she certainly needs help. Has been this way since her and my father's divorce some 8-9 months ago. I digress, is it possible for me to do this, and what exactly do I need to do. Really hoping I can get this to work. This is the worst I've ever seen my mother get. If anyone has advice on the process please give me your input.

PV2 Justin Farrar assuming you are a relatively new soldier with the majority of your enlistment to serve, you can't transfer to the ARNG or the Reserve. If you were ARNG or Reserve, you could get an AD recruiter to enlist you AD via a DD368, but as far as I know you can't go the other way.
If your parent has become unable to care for herself, my recommendations are:
- short term: request a compassionate reassignment.
- mid-term, request to make your parent a dependent in DEERS. She can live with you and receive benefits under your care.https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/SecondaryDependency/SDC.html
If you pursue the the second one, that will put you both in the best position as you will have stable pay and benefits including housing to help out.
SFC (Join to see) and SFC (Join to see) any insight for this soldier.

You're more than likely going to have to request a compassionate reassignment until your contract is up, then re-enlist in a part-time component. You can't just transfer out of an active component. That's not really how that works.
Keep in mind that the Army Reserve has more senior positions then the NG has which affords you greater opportunity fir potential advancement.
