The other day my wife working as a civilian contractor had gone to VI Office on post for a visit with employees with her boss when one of the employees showed them a DA photo of a soldier who is transitioning from male to female. Soldier was wearing make-up but was still in the male uniform. His name had been legally changed and his re-assignment was not complete should she have worn the female uniform?

Transgender should be held to the standard of their chromosomes. XX or XY, regardless what gender they "feel" they are.

I am familiar with chromosomes variations, hard to find good numbers because there is a lot under that catagory. But this was an interesting read.

And that right there is the million dollar question. There is not an answer yet. Only time will tell what the right answer is I don't know. We keep going down these very slippery slopes. How do you handle uniforms, DA photos, PT, Assignments, Address people. Are they a he or a she and when does that change? Should it?

OK, so what is the new bleeding heart issue of the day? The left handed lesbian albino spear fishing club? Treating people with respect is fine, but making a special place for every group that might be offended by some other group is idiotic at best. We are humans being, is that not enough? No matter what you do in life their is someone who will damn what you do! Political correctness is poison.
How far do you want to chase the rabbit own the hole. You may not like what you fine when you reach the end of the tunnel.

I am sorry that you are dealing with so many whom are this closed minded. I was very angry when my wife and I discussed it. You are truly a strong person to be true to who you are!

Unfortunately it is. Look at some of the responses this has had. I just wanted to see what others' thoughts were because of what my wife had witnessed from those that worked in that office.

Sounds like Lindsey here is trying to convince somebody of something. The issue here is the openness about your "choice". Great, you're serving. Great, you're doing your job. Problem is; WHY do all LBGT people act like mainstream society is the one with the psychological disorders? IMO, a person who is LBGT has a psychological disorder no different than a pedophile. They can't help the way they feel either. It's still your choice to live as what you are born as, or go against nature, just like it's the pedophiles choice to act on their illegal and immoral behavior. The other problem is that LBGTs walk around acting like we should all be impressed with their "strength" of serving openly. Uh, no. It just means you've chosen to open yourself to that which is directed at you. Being LBGT isn't a badge of honor and no one should think you're brave or courageous. Theology aside, no one needs to know you're transgender, gay, lesbian, bi, or straight. Politicians don't want to lose these people's vote, so of course in public they support these "rights", but behind closed doors, really speak their mind. Quite frankly, you're a distraction to the good discipline and morale of the military and the histories of the services. Keep your "choices" to yourself. I'm so glad I never had to serve with these Chelsea Mannings, and Lindsey Mullers. Let's go back to "don't ask, don't tell".

Which latrine do they use? Which PT standards do they use? Which barracks do you house them in? Or what if you are a man in the Infantry with a ranger tab and change to a woman. Do you get to stay Infantry? How about the opposite? You are a woman and change to a man. Is the Infantry now open to you? Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

I won't give my opinion (so don't assume). What I will say is, there is nothing any of us can do about the rules change. So why does any of our OPINIONS matter. Save my life in battle and we're cool!

The Soldier in this case should have been discharged under current regulations governing gender dysphoria.
Until or unless the rules and regulations are changed, we are all required to adhere to them.
Soldiers know this when they join.

CPT Toby Forbes - now, that is true, but the Soldier in question didn't start the change yesterday. The authority is at the Service Secretaries as SECDEF reviews policy on this matter. It is likely it will be changed, given the political momentum. In the meantime, regulations are still in effect.

I think all of this homosexuality creates a huge distraction and another avenue for EEO complaints. The fact that homosexuals serve in the military is fine, it just needs to be a non-issue, which of course isn't because they make it out to be some sort of badge of honor. Quite frankly, the military is a combat oriented profession that shouldn't have to deal with so many social issues. Come out of the closet after you leave.
