The use of U.S. Special Ops Forces comes after President Barack Obama asked sent to Congress in February requesting authorization for "limited" ground combat operations against ISIS. Do you consider this use "limited" ground combat operations?
"U.S. special operations forces suffered casualties during a hostage rescue mission against ISIS in Iraq overnight, U.S. officials said Thursday.
The exact number and extent of the injuries was not immediately clear, the officials told NBC News.
The U.S. team rescued a number of Kurdish fighters held captive by ISIS in a mission that was requested by the Iraqi government, the officials said.
The U.S. is the only coalition military force conducting operations in Iraq with the capability to launch such a mission.
A White House official described the rescue mission to NBC News as "successful" and as an example of "collaboration" between U.S.-led coalition forces and Peshmerga fighters versus ISIS.

The rescue raid involved American helicopters, Kurdish and American Special Operations forces, and airstrikes, according to a New York Times report citing Iraqi officials. It said senior ISIS militants were captured.
This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates."

How many of you know there were US Special Forces with the Peshmerga from the end of the Gulf War until Operation IRAQI FREEDOM? It's always a safe assumption that there are small teams in most countries doing things that aren't publically known.

I'm amazed how many Americans are unaware of how many SOF personnel are in countries that they couldn't even point out on a map. I love the question "Why are we in X country for?" - I usually refer them to the National Security Strategy, which is published by the USG online...which most have never heard of, much less have read.

I am not sure about the limited GCO part. I would still call it a rescue mission.
