Just the other days I saw a PFC wearing Rocky C4T boots, I asked him if he knew they were unauthorized and he told me that he does but his NCO hasn't told him anything so, he keeps using them.

Why do we keep seeing SM wearing unauthorized boots?

SGT(P) (Join to see) - from what I gather, what makes most of those boots on the verboten list no-go's is the materials they are made of, not the design of the boot. Fake suede vs real suede.

LTC Paul Labrador Sir, I think that's what makes it harder to know which one is in Reg and which one not, I definitely can't recognize fake suede from real, or leather.

If you need a cheat sheet to keep track of which boots are authorized and which ones aren't, then there really isn't an enforceable standard, is there?

NCO's are not enforcing the 670-1. It's pretty simple. I see 1LT and LT. Colonels on here defending it with "take care of your feet" drivel. Gone are the days of "Do what you're told, when you're told, how you're told, or get your ass handed to you". SMH . Those damn green wool socks and original issue boots of the 80's were total garbage....but we had to wear them.

SFC (Join to see) IDK but, if someone took the time to approve a Regulation, maybe, MAYBE, someone cares...

It's actually very simple. The leaders can't enforce the standard because they are unaware of it or simply don't care. I corrected so many Soldiers when the regulation changed that we end up doing a NCODP on uniform wear and appearance to once and for all catch all the misconceptions in one room.
The very next day a MSG that sat on the class was wearing the unauthorized version of the Nike boots. It must start from the top, if the top leadership don't enforce it the subordinates will not care.

SSG (Join to see) with absolutely no intentions to offend or belittle the Reserves guys, can you compare the use they give to their gear one weekend a month, 2 weeks a year with AD SM? Unless they deployed that year, they'll use their uniform in the whole year less than we use it in 2 months. So, I don't think,is a good comparison.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - I understand your view on that, to a point. The average Guard Soldier wears their boots 30 days a year, so yes, you get more wear out of them. I am on ADOS though. Active orders, but without the clothing allowance. I wear mine everyday. Many of our full time personnel are GS- or WG- civilians...but the job requires they be SMs who wear a uniform. These Soldiers receive no clothing allowance either.

SSG (Join to see) doesn't being in an active assignment, even being a Reservist, qualifies you for an allowance? If not, then that's something that needs to be addressed.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - AGR personnel, who are on permanent orders do, but those of us on temporary orders (which can last years) do not. And technicians, who are civilian employees forced to wear a uniform do not. Nature of the beast in the Guard I'm afraid. I could write a whole paper about the other ways we get screwed.

I'll would say "Lack of leadership" since the leader of the soldier didn't stay up to date will rules and regulation.

I recall seeing photos of Ted Williams in Korea holding court with enlisted & talking about hitting. Ted wore a Red Sox Baseball cap, and white sox and loafers with his dungarees. And if anyone criticized his unauthorized military uniform, Ted told them "$%#&*&^%" and kept wearing what he wanted during his time in Korea.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Ted Williams marched to his own drummer when he served in Korea. He was not happy being called back to active duty after he had served three years in WWII. However his boss, Major John Glenn said Ted was a good fighter pilot and did his job very well.

Leaders have to enforce this. I've corrected too many Soldiers as a NCO only to be told "but SGT, "(SNCO/Officer) wear these." Any my only response could be something around the lines of "I'm telling you not to wear those boots because they're not authorized." If you correct enough Soldiers on your own, sooner or later many senior enlisted MAY fix themselves to avoid people looking at them sideways when around such situations. I've seen it.

I've seen Senior Leaders with the same boots and that's when I understand the lower ranks behavior, sometimes.

Because there is a lack of enforcement of standards. I am also not entirely convinced that our NCO corps knows in many cases what rite looks like.
