I couldn't believe they were protesting slavery by walking on the flag that allows them the freedom to exercise their right to free speech...your thoughts?

What separates this country from so many others is our freedom.

While I agree that disrespecting the flag is shameful and wrong, it is their right. And we should support that right. We should support all freedom, even if it makes us uncomfortable.

We don't have to agree, but cries for shipping people out of the country or the like are misplaced. These kinds of actions instill a lot of emotions because of how we feel about the nation and the flag. But, that doesn't mean we alter our fundamental core beliefs because we disagree.

I'm with you, this may not be the freedom we like to protect, but I like to look at it as, there are other big things I am proud to have protected.

Co-sign....I don't like it and I certainly wouldn't do it but I agree that it's everyone's right to be an ungrateful asshole. When I see things like this in real life I make sure to remind them that I and others died for their right to do that.

The veteran get arrested yet the protesters walk free when what they are doing is against the law. OUTRAGIOUS!

US Code Title 4 Chapter 1 states:
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

(b)The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

(c)The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

(d)The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

(e)The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

(f)The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

(g)The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

(h)The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

(i)The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

(j)No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

(k)The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

1SG, as much as I hate the disrespect, it's not illegal. US Flag code is not law and thus not binding.

Actually, in Georgia, Georgia Code Section 50-3-9 does make it a crime.

It is what makes this country great. Everyone has freedom of speech, even the idiots. No one waiting to cart them off and cut off their head, yet moron's don't respect the very country that protects them. Show of hands......who wants a free ride to the country of their choice? I'll drive you there and wave at you in my rear view mirror.

A protest right outside Moody Air Force Base on a State University where they trampled with intent to destroy a US flag and these people didn't get arrested. The vet did them a favor by taking the flag they abandoned. Please let us know if you are not happy with America and want to offer your citizenship to one of the many people around the world that are actually being killed and persecuted while obeying the law. I know it is hard only knowing what you have (clean water, food, clothes, clean air, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and Kim Kardashian) but guess what destroying the FABRIC OF OUR COUNTRY "Literally" doesn't make you a better citizen it just makes you scum. So please ask ISIS, Al Quaeda, HAMAS, AL KORAN, and every other terrorist organization to join so we can quickly enact something I would like to call "TRUE NATURALIZATION SELECTION".

She, a Veteran, approached the group, and took the flag from them... Bless her, as you said, our Constitution allows people to exercise their rights to act like jerk---s, and protects them !! It reminds me of the mid-sixties protests reference the Vietnam war.. I thought maybe we the people had matured a bit more since then, apparently NOT !! Maybe our Federal Government should drop Tax Payer support for Valdosta State !! Someone just standing there should have picked up the Flag in the first place.. What ever happened to American Pride ??

I have some very non-Army approved opinions about this but I'll just say that those..."people" could suffer very unfortunate events and I would be so concerned as to sit here and finish this Dr Pepper and go to bed.

I would have blown a gasket and went to jail...but still clutching freedom in my hands. Try me and would have seen me. A VET. Old Glory deserves the respect or get out. Freedom of speech is one thing but to do such a thing...smh you never can correct ignorance and no back bone. Oh well life continues and now my pride feels those foot steps.
