Is restricting post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to a single program of study what is best for Veterans and their dependents in the changing economic and technological landscape? I don't think so. I think it is particularly detrimental to those with an entrepreneurial vision where skills across multiple disciplines will benefit them most. For example if someone wanted to get into a custom fabrication business, classes including welding, engineering, business, and law would benefit that person while I can't think of a single approved curriculum I've seen that covers that.

Federal statue outlines this requirement. GI Bill benefits may be paid to individuals who are pursuing GI Bill-approved "programs of education". The term “programs of education” means any curriculum or any combination of unit courses or subjects pursued at an educational institution which is generally accepted as necessary to fulfill requirements for the attainment of a predetermined and identified educational, professional, or vocational objective.

Programs of education are approved for GI Bill purposes by a state approving agency (SAA) or the Department of Veterans Affairs in accordance with statutory and regulatory provisions and agency guidance.

The programs of education include a wide variety of education and training. The programs include, but are not limited to,
• Programs at nonaccredited and accredited educational institutions that lead to a certificate, a degree, or an educational, vocational, or professional objective;
• Licensing or certification tests for a predetermined vocation or profession;
• National tests for admission to (e.g., the Scholastic Aptitude Test [SAT]) or course credit at institutions of higher learning;
and
• Apprenticeships or other on-the-job training programs.

GiI Bill students can use dual-majors, but would need to talk with the individual school to ensure both majors are GI Bill approved.

We find so many Veterans who are not in the VA System. Why can't every active duty person be enrolled and leave the military with a VA Card? With the vast majority of Veterans never taking advantage of the many benefits available, this would be one giant step towards helping so many of them.

I would like to know why I have to wait on a hearing for my PACT Act cancer, Multiple Myeloma? I am a gulf war veteran, fall under Burn Pits. On the VA.gov web site it shows My cancer as a presumptive. Go to what Burn Pit and toxic exposures are presumptive. Then go to https://www.va.gov/resources/presumptive-cancers-related-to-burn-pit-exposure and expand to the Spinal cord cancers. Multiple Myeloma is listed. Mine started in spine with compression fractures. Why does it take so long to get a hearing?

PO2 Thomas Lind I am working with an Advocate. I have a very good VSO. The problem is first claim I was turned down, not enough service. Not in Gulf. Higher level appeal said I did have 20 years service and two deployments to gulf but turned me down. Said I got myeloma from old age over 60. Was 57. Did a supplemental information NEXUS letters from two Oncologists. One of them is a specialist, only treats myeloma and lymphoma for last 18 years. Turned down. Did another higher level appeal. My VSO showed them where it’s listed under PACT act. VSO said after talking to waiter she was certain I would get it. Denied again. So to the board I go. Long wait

As of November 10, 2024, Cleveland VA Medical Center is reporting approximately 7 days of claims inventory, with approximately 70% of these paper claims. As of January 2024, all paper claims are manually entered into the Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System for processing. Without specifics on the dates of claims filed and the name of the claimant, it is difficult to find a root cause of this type of issue.

Why the Veterans prior to 2000 are INELIGIBLE to use MONT.GI Bill especially people like me who could not use it for serious medical and family problems?

Veterans who are eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill have 10 years from their last day of service to use the benefits before they expire. As an example, if a Veteran left active duty on January 1, 2004, they have until December 31, 2013 to use their benefits. It is important to note that the benefits must be used by this time. If a Veteran is still in school at the time the benefits expire, VA cannot extend the benefits expiration date.

If a Veteran was prevented from attending school due to a serious illness or disability, they may be eligible for a GI Bill extension: https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-a-gi-bill-extension/.

If a Veteran was not able to use their MGIB before they expired, they may be eligible for other benefits through the Veteran Readiness and Employment program (VR&E), as long as they have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%. The VR&E program can help Veterans with job training, education, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. VR&E participants are also eligible to receive a monthly subsistence to help cover personal expenses while attending school or training.

Unfortunately, we cannot assist with the state benefit programs. However, we recommend reaching out to that program office directly or contact a local accredited Veterans service representative who may be able to assist.

Secretary McDonough, given that the Affordable Care Act recognizes the VA as a valid healthcare facility, why does Medicare still not recognize it, resulting in penalties for veterans who enroll late, and what steps is the VA taking to address this issue?

While women-owned and 8(a) businesses are given advantages in government grants, veteran and disabled veteran-owned businesses do not enjoy the same benefits—how is the VA working to change this disparity?

I like to know why the VA can't make decission faster than what they do?
I had a younger brother that was in North Carolina and drank plenty of water just like i did when i was
there, he fought them for many years with issue and was sent to many different VA hospitals, and after 14 years of fighting and testing they find stage 4 cancer, now I don't understand how they did that and can't find 123. and than and only than decided to pay him for drinking that water and yes he passed very short time after they put him thru hell. Why dont the goverment get there act together and take care of us that drank that water you all know we been there all you have to do is look at the DD2114 it a no branner, unless you all draggen it out to avoid paying us, we aren't asking for much just what we fought for our country, and now we get a kick in the butt by our goverment.
I wont go thru with my brother did with the VA, but will fight them for what they did to us Veterens from North Carolina, many had already passed onto another place better than the USA, but those that are still hear needs to be treated like a VET not a number.

We are very sorry for your loss and wish you our deepest condolences. VA recognizes that the process of obtaining a VA disability rating can be complex and time-consuming for several reasons. First, the legal requirements for VA's duty to assist in the development of a claim, as outlined in 38 CFR §3.103, can contribute to the duration of the process, as it involves careful collection and examination of all pertinent information to ensure that Veterans receive accurate decisions on their claims. Second, VA receives a high volume of claims, which can lead to extended processing times in some cases. VA continuously strives to improve the claims process to reduce wait times and increase efficiency, acknowledging the importance of timely resolution for Veterans. Lastly, if a claim is initially denied, the appeal process can involve multiple steps, including gathering new evidence, providing additional documentation, attending hearings, and potentially attending additional medical evaluations, each of which can add to the timeline.
MSG Civil Affairs Specialist
Why does it take so long to receive a rating? Several of my claims have been denied as well and these are issues that I obtained while Active Duty and activated while on Reserve Duty. My issue was that I was taught to man up and not complain and I would not go to sick call or anything and now I several issues the VA continues to deny, such as the grinding of my teeth, my lock jaw, my sleep apnea, my continued back and neck pain. One of these issues is in claim status waiting to be seen by the Judge and it is coming on 2 years, why so Long???
