When I Honorably separated form the USN, I was not married and did not have any kids. My kids are not eligible for financial assistance from the VA due to not listing them as beneficiaries of my GI Bill. How can this issue be fixed for myself and other Veterans?
Hello, I would like to know why our 100 percent Service connected disabled Veterans can not be exempt from paying property taxes. Our Officials can pass other bills to help others that have not sacrificed for our Country. This is a quality of life for those who have Served. Thank you
Sgt Connie Plate
Property taxes, including exemptions, are determined on a state-wide basis, not by the federal government. This question needs to be addressed to your state representatives as the VA has no control or power to change property taxes.
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Unfortunately, we cannot assist with the state benefit programs. However, we recommend reaching out to that program office directly or contact a local accredited Veterans service representative who may be able to assist.
My claim for for disability takes time. I understand the steps it takes for accuracy. My claim to correct a clerical error has zero action. (Status - Married) Claim has been submitted several months ago and still on step 1 of 8. Why, is a simple edit to a check box taking so long?

Why we can't get our travel reimbursement on time. We never had this problem of waiting 2 weeks to be reimbursed when the VA fiscal was handling it. Why did you change it and why hasn't the it increased with the gas prices
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Significant enhancements to transparency and visibility of open claims have been made, ensuring national and local leadership have visibility of claims inventory. This allows VA the opportunity to reallocate resources to assist if a local VA Medical Center is above the 10-day inventory standard established in 2021. As of January 1, 2024 through November 15, 2024, 84% of claims are being processed within 10 days. If you are experiencing significant delays in your travel reimbursement, please reach out to the Beneficiary Travel office at your local facility, which an be found at the following link: https://www.va.gov/HEALTHBENEFITS/vtp/beneficiary_travel_pocs.asp.
There are several options available for transportation that would not require any out-of-pocket expense from the Veteran. These include rideshare programs, Veterans Transportation Service, Volunteer Transportation Network, and for those in some of the highly rural areas, the Highly Rural Transportation Grant program.

What can we do about VR&E services being overwhelmed in some Cities due to being the only facilities for multiple states in the region(s). The displacement of veterans or moving situation are increasing on the West Coast as well as natural disaster impacted areas. Furthermore the Traveling Veteran Status process requires alot of time in states with no major VA hospital for hundreds of miles in between VA hospitals. How can this be revised to improve time efficiency and accuracy next year.
I am rated at 80% service connected disability from a few years ago but now I as I have aged more at 82.5 years of age I think I am about 100%. How do I go about getting up graded to 100%. I know it will not effect my pay because as I can not work I get max pay but my wife of over 62 years will need income when I pass on.
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
You are encouraged to submit a claim for increased disability rating, especially with the recurrence of cancer and ongoing treatment. Veterans who experience a worsening of a service-connected condition or develop a new disability can file for an increased rating under 38 CFR §3.400(o)(2). You can file a claim online via VA.GOV or, in person at any regional office, or with an accredited representative.
The government could help Veterans out by making their retirement pay tax free. Has anyone suggested this or tried to get it placed before congress? Congress gets 100% of their pay for retirement tax free. Does not seem equitable.
Sgt Connie Plate
You're right about it not being equitable. It is past time we tie the pay and benefits or our respresentatives to a percentage of what the average pay and benifits are for the American public. This would provide incentive for them to ensure the system is working for the people. Right now, the people are working for the system.
