I'm hoping to be on the National Mall in DC with a picnic basket and drinks listening to Zac Brown Band, Bruce Springsteen, and others for the Concert for Valor who knows maybe snuggled up to someone awesome. ;-)

In my personal opinion I would rather see those free meals for veterans go to those who don't have a lot so they can get the free meal.

Yes I did. I went down in the early afternoon and scoped out a place. I was right up by the gate of the free section where it had started. I met some cool people and hung out and talked. The crowd was pretty well behaved for the most part. There was some good music. You can see pics I posted on SFC Mark Merino's post Veteran's Day 2014 https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/veterans-day-2014/323511

While I deeply appreciate the offers provided by various businesses, and I'm happy to see that so many are participating, I don't generally partake. I prefer to stay with family and avoid the crowds.

I have to see when I have time to go and eat. I have to cook the S.O.S breakfast at my VFW post from 0500-1100 from 1200-1300 post colors at city hall, and from 1400-1600 post colors at another VFW post than I have school from 1830-2300.

Stay home and cook up something good! Maybe a pot of chili! And I'm a pretty darn good cook.

It's a four day off with my family. A bologna sandwich and a Pepsi would be feast enough to avoid the gimme gimme crowd.

This is my personal opinion and applies only to me and myself: I always feel like a d-bag when I even think about exercising privilege on Veterans Day. Everyone else's mileage may vary but I just feel wrong. Again, that's personally speaking. I cast no aspersions on anyone else that feels like they should.

It may not be for all of us, but there are many of our brothers and sisters out there that could use a meal.

Oh for sure. Absolutely. And like I said, what works for me isn't for everyone else.

If I ever see a troop, past or present, who needs a meal, I buy it for them. Case in point: about a month ago I saw a homeless veteran bumming for change at the McDonald's drive through (don't judge me, they have awesome soft serve!) I pulled through, ordered my ice cream, then I ordered a Big Mac combo, supersized, with a bottle of water and an extra bottle of water. I pulled around, parked, gave the guy a meal and a card to a local shelter, and I said "if you can use this card, use it. If you're too proud, pay it forward to someone who can't." Then I gave him a big ol' man-hug, shook his hand, and thanked him for his service.

I believe in taking care of our own. If the administrations both R and D won't do it, well eff them in the effing ay, because I sure as heck won't let a troop fall by the wayside. We've all seen and been through way too much to let Murphy blue falcon any of us.

Right on SSG Tim Everett I have even offered these homeless folks a job. A couple of weeks ago I was in San Francisco for fleet week with one of our vendors and there were two young sailors at a table next to ours, I handed their waitress $40 out of my pocket for dinner and the vendor bought them a beer. On the cab trip back to the hotel he told me he couldn't believe I took $ out of my pocket for the sailors, I explained to him that those young men were carrying the torch for the rest of us ole vets and they don't get paid enough for what they are going to have to do for our nation.

Moral of the story is he as a civilian wants his son to be with him the next time he does that for a military member or veteran, so his son can learn respect for all of us in the future.

I started a tradition a few years ago buying books and donating at the VA hospital. If the hospital allows this year, I'll buy a few pizzas, also.

Well if I can get out of the local Ft. Bragg area then I wouldn't mind going to one of the places that will serve free meals to veterans. The only problem that I face every year is the amount of people that go. Areas that have more locations of participants is better than the local small military towns that we are normally stationed in.
