If you are in Colorado and looking for volunteer, opportunities please come work with us.
Operation Veteran Strong.org is looking for community champions to raise awareness of this platform.
Veterans that have connected with us are making a difference in their communities. We are veterans helping veterans - a grass roots organization focusing on helping and connecting veterans throughout the great state of Colorado. We created an amazing website for veterans and their families with thousands of resources that are free to all. Check out the site yourself and if interested in volunteering, reach out to me and we can send you out a champions kit to get you started.

Also check out Warrior Films trailers on the OVS Landing page: In this 5 part series, watch the real stories of Veterans who have transitioned back to civilian life and learn from the greatest minds who highlight community-based, non-medicalized solutions for Veterans returning home.

I have a passionate project, rememberandhonor.com , that interviews and preserves the stories of veterans. The main objective is to get their stories down on permanent record for them and their families. A secondary objective, with their permission, is to donate a copy to their local library/museum, the local state university, the National WWII Museum (if a WWII vet) and the Library of Congress. I recently started a channel to upload these interviews for the public to view: bit.ly/rememberandhonorstories

American Corporate Partners or ACP provides free, 1 on 1, customized mentorships where the service member, veteran, or active duty spouse can be paired with a mentor from corporate America to help them prepare for a new career. Go to acp-usa.org to sign up as a mentor or a mentee.

I volunteer as a Guardian ad Litem in my community. I also volunteer for the American Red Cross in the Disaster Recovery Team. However, my goal is to work at the VA as a social worker.

After completing my military service, I returned to college and joined an environmental club. I didn't do a lot of that work after getting married and raising two daughters. But during the last two years of my employment, I started to take horticultural course at the community college, Morton Arboretum and Chicago Botanical Garden. When I retired, I worked with a garden designer until I developed Crohn's Disease and couldn't endure the heat any longer. When I moved back to Virginia, I enrolled into the Virginia Master Gardener Program, took a job as an Executive Coordinator of a group that volunteers to pick up roadside trash, and I completed several programs in environmental education. As a Master Gardener, I was assigned to an Elementary School and worked with grades 4 and 5 in planting school gardens--flower and vegetable and installed a blue and nature trail and rain garden. Together with the work that I did with the JAYCEES and church, I feel that I gave my few talents to the community, and it gave me a great deal of satisfaction.

For 8 years I have been giving a 2 hr talk, slide show to 8th graders about Vietnam. Some how other teachers k-8 have asked me to help with reading, math, history. Two days a week, I'm sitting on the floor with k and 1st grades reading, counting and learning the alphabet. Then its off to 2-8 reading, math, and history with which ever teacher needs me. Best part 5 of my grand kids are in the same school so I get to see them

I've been volunteering with Oklahoma DAV as a chapter member and/or officer since June 2012 and LOVE helping my fellow veterans file for their disability compensation. It's enjoyable and heart warming knowing that our veterans are getting the compensation they deserve and joining in at the statewide events we hold is a lot of fun and fascinating seeing the community supporting us. I would be lost if I didn't have DAV in my life.
