It's hard to say I had any successful experience being a Plumbing Specialist, I Volunteered, and was contracted as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Stationed in Germany with all the Hash and drugs there, it was too easy to get in trouble. I had been working at the Officers Club plumbing, and I found a Hash pipe under one of the toilets, and I thought I would give it to my Leader of the S.M.A.R.T. Team as soon as I seen him. The Base Security was running a drill that day in the same Club. They pulled me aside saying I looked like the suspect they were looking for. They found the Hash pipe before I turned it in, I told them I found it in the In the Offices Club and was going to give it to my Leader when I saw him. They arrested me anyway. I received an article 13, my Company Commander said I could stick around and get in more trouble, or I could take an Honorable Discharge. I took the Honorable Discharge. I was looking forward to a career as as a Jet Engine Mechanic, and I didn't want to spend 6 months in holding for an opening in Tech School, it would be like Basic Training all over again. They offered me options of different jobs, so I took Plumbing.

Question. After receiving a call from a vet socialist, I was asked a question and then though that my case was now being sent to the approving authority. The process should take 1 to 2 weeks then finalization. Is this correct?

I was called to duty after I retired to take over a failed non-profit drug and alcohol center servicing Veterans. I started America's Homeless Veterans in 2014 and since then I can't tell you how many guys have said to me, "You saved my life when you saved this place, proving hope, stability and understanding." Today we provide substance abuse detox, treatment and sober living with community support, workforce development and counseling. We house over 50 previously unhoused Veterans saving countless lives though we have lost a few along the way. Everyday I come here it is a new day for us all as it is always a day filled with renewed life.

That is a wonderful project. As a veteran I love to hear veterans helping other veterans we need more of this.

I found it satisfying to join a reserve (volunteer) police organization (the Colorado Rangers). Belonging to this group is very similar to the comradeship found in the military. I highly recommend joining any volunteer group you think would be fun to support as you continue life’s journey.

I did not serve in the US Military but was involved in joint missions. Combat Veteran in the Gulf War, Middle East and Africa.
Since I became a US Citizen over 15 years ago, I volunteer and became the Treasurer for http://www.TexasForHeroes.org
We provide Free Weekend retreats to all Veterans through the Healing Warrior Hearts program (http://www.healingwarriorhearts.org) that deals with Healing the Emotional, Moral and Spiritual Wounds of War.
Our organization has received the Champions Award from the White House under President Obama for our program. All staff and board members are volunteers and no one is on a payroll. We all give back freely what has been given to us and pass the gifts along. We are a non-profit organization and hold 10 weekend retreats a year both in Houston and Milwaukee.
Having gone through the retreat myself in 2006, it has given me so much hope and I was able to address the demons I carried from Combat. The Healing Journey had started. Powerful to experience but more powerful to see the wins of all Veterans that participate each weekend!

VFW Post 8973-New Orleans was highlighted on the annual report. We provided a cooling station, a place to charge cell phones, and passed out thousands of meals, delivered water, tarps, and generators in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida to our local community to reduce the suffering and impacts of the storm.
