The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has an unwavering commitment to support our Veterans, and that includes helping them build rewarding careers within our health care system. VA gives Veterans—particularly those with disabilities—hiring preference for any available positions. We value the special skills and unique perspectives Veterans bring to the table. And we understand that by sharing your experiences, you can continue a life of service, helping other Veterans heal and cope with being back home.
At VA, we also recognize that military spouses are educated, qualified and ready to serve the nation’s Veterans and their families. That is why VA partners with the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) program to help recruit, hire, promote and retain military spouses in meaningful careers at VA. If you’re a military spouse looking for employment, consider working at VA. We offer competitive pay, premium-support group health insurance and remote work options. Companies who hire Veterans and spouses during these challenging times will benefit from those employees’ maturity, leadership and resilience gained during their military service. I applaud your efforts to strengthen our economy by leveraging this exceptional talent pool within our Veteran community. What leadership development programs do you provide to employees who join as individual contributors to help them grow into leadership roles?
Thank you for your focus on hiring members of our military and Veteran community during this stressful time in our nation. Because this period of high unemployment is frightening and destabilizing for so many Americans, more than ever before, we must be proactive and reach out to provide care and support for each other. The PREVENTS Task Force Office applauds your efforts. What do you see as best practices for supporting the mental health and wellbeing of your employees as we face the challenges associated with the COVID 19 pandemic, the current economic downturn, and the necessary but painful civil unrest occurring within our communities?
Maj James Wood
With Walgreens, "Our stores have always been at the heart of America’s communities – a role we take very seriously, especially during this unprecedented time for our country. We are doing everything we can to help ensure the health and well-being of our team members and customers during the pandemic, and that includes keeping everyone updated and informed. As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we continually update our teams with our most up-to-date information on the company’s response and ongoing efforts in communities and across the United States.

Amazon has launched numerous initiatives during COVID-19 to support employee mental health as well as that of veterans and communities at large. We have recently launched Amazon Care (https://amazon.care/) to make healthcare mobile accessible for employees . This also allows employees to be tested for COVID-19 for free and speak to healthcare providers on demand. Alexa devices have also been donated to allow people to participate in telehealth sessions from home and in hospitals, and also provides tips during COVID-19. We also offer free benefits for therapy, behavioral health, and meditation for employees too.

SFC (Join to see) - feelings, You have been spending to much time around your mommy. Daddy told me if you have feelings as a man then some one can hurt those feelings. You are better off not having them. A man in a mans world is a tough place, Feelings will only drag you down. Focus on logic and do your job better than every one. Then one day they will call you a God of logic/your job.
CMSgt Chase Conway
CMSgt Chase Conway - Of course I am not a CMSgt, The only reason for the rank thing is to make you feel small next to the high ranking people here. My Father cheated his whole life to get to the very top of the world, And told me to always follow the rules, and I did. And I got noware.
The high ranking people here are people that think rules are for stupid people.
Just ask them they will tell you. If I feel like a CMSgt Than why not call me one.
I am of course smarter than all of you put together. Just ask me I will tell you.
When the shit hit the fan at my company They always came crawling to my lab to bail them out. And I did all the time

With so many members of our National Guard being activated for both OCONUS deployments and domestic response, how do you take care of your employees who serve in our Guard and Reserve units? What other things can we do to incentivize hiring veterans, and those active in our reserve components?
CPO (Join to see)
I have a colleague at Amazon who is activated with the National Guard currently and I'm in the Reserves myself. Amazon has an Employee Assistance Program that supports Reserve and Guard employees, and also provides military Leaves of Absence (LOA).
Maj James Wood
Walgreens has proudly pledged to recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and to ensure our managers and supervisors have the tools they need to effectively manage team members who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

ALSO, I get emails from certain companies/Recruiters from certain companies (on this discussion board) stating that we can email them back with potential applicants, but when this happens, it takes a very long time to get some type of response. Is there some way we can get not only the Recruiter info for our area (Region/State), but also a local contact who knows what the Recruiter is doing (putting out there that there are positions within the company, within our local communities -- there seems to be a disconnect between the Recruiter and the local POC for said company. The local POC tells us THEY ARE NOT HIRING, even after showing them the emails/fliers the Recruiters are publishing. This really disheartens Veteran job seekers and really puts a stain on the company...especially when companies tout that they are a "Veteran-friendly" company. I know there are other ways the employer can tout they are Veteran-friendly, but this initial experience ruins things.
