Has anyone seen the story out of Virginia about 2LT Caron Nazario. I'm looking for some feedback on his actions and the police reactions. Is this acceptable conduct for an officer in the US Military Has anyone else had this kind of interaction?

This is a bit long but is a very good breakdown of everything that happened.

I watched the entire video Tatum tears into the uncooperative behavior and actions or inactions of the LT! The video goes onto to explain the reason for the escalated traffic stops and reasons for actions! Very good video for the general public including the SMA who should stay neutral until the defending suggest otherwise!!

Having read accounts in our local newspaper, he did nothing illegal but then he did not cooperate with the police when pulled over. This in turn made the cops suspicious and rightly so.

but he did cooperate. We're told that, if worried or if on a narrow road to indicate compliance by slowing down and activating hazard lights. You do NOT draw your service weapon unless you detect an actual threat.

Yes he cooperated by slowing down and responsibly pulled into a well lit service station. But the video shows when told to get out of his vehicle, repeatedly, he would not do so. That raises suspicion, thereby reaction by the cops, too many have been shot in similar situations. From what I have heard, read, and seen most of these racial encounters have been triggered by not following police directions. unfortunately, police often overact.
I ask myself, why would I not cooperate, even if I disdained the police, which I do not.

When I was AD, I had mostly positive interactions with civilian law enforcement. What I did notice from the video is that the 2LT did not pull over for the police immediately, which was a factor in the negative reaction he received. 2LT Nazario claimed he felt "his life was in danger" so he pulled in to a gas station a few miles down the road. From an outsider's perspective, you're going to be in a much better position pulling over ASAP, not miles down the road. Respect goes both ways and many LE officers are prior military, so if you show them that respect and allow them to do their job, you'll see a better outcome.
I don't know 2LT Nazario's lived experience, so I can't judge him. I would have done it differently.

The police were in full Uniform and a fully marked patrol car. The LT. Had his temp tag Illegally displayed behind a tinted window. The police do not know him nor do they know why he failed to yield.

Then the LT. Failed to follow their commands and argue. So the police officers did not know what his intentions were along with him refusing to follow their verbal commands.

The LT. Was wrong! Conduct unbecoming an officer. He should have been punished!

Try Comply first then put in a formal complaint if a few minutes of your time is worth it or don't and risk your health and maybe some others. Look at the whole picture just not the part of it you sit in. I would also say we waste a lot of time on selfish pride maybe ask did we serve selflessly or to serve our selves and still serving our selves. I personally will say I feel better when people feel comfortable around me at all time even stressful times

What's really a shame about all this is the 2 police officers were fired for doin g their job and this 2nd Lt probably had no charges brought against him from neither the local authorities nor the military because of PC and his dark color skin which if this was a white person would have had charges brought against them from both.

From what I've seen it's simple the officers caused the problem. You don't make a traffic stop with your guns drawn from a simple hunch...(why did you keep driving into the gas/stop station) Every motorist is advised to stop at a good location so as not to stop or impeded the flow of traffic. As a son of a retired cop and was once briefly a cop I know that your hunch has got to be supported by a reasonable fact or suspicion; which there was nothing at the end of the video. As a cop you've got to know that the citizens have the right to question you. The cop has got to have the tact and professionalism to deal with citizens without escalating a simple traffic stop. The boot LT seems to be a douche as we use to call it but that doesn't give a cop the right to pepper spray him and treat him like crap while in uniform. If you don't know he is a United States Federal Commissioned Officer.

The video doesn't seem to match with your assessment of the situation. I believe the LT caused most of the problems in this video.

2LT Nazario conducted himself flawlessly. He kept calm and did his best to talk with the officer even though he knew he was not getting thru to the police officer.

I must correct myself. In my first answer I had only seen a small portion of the entire incident. I say now that Nazario was wrong.
