I was just wondering has there always been a promotion point system in the military? If not, how did they pick and choose who was NCO material? Back the in "Old Army," could you a person be promoted strictly their awesome performance? And I wonder why this crazy point system came about?

Hey SPC Cathey,
I can't really speak too much on the old system but the new system is a great way to promote Soldiers. It's not just about points. You have to look at it at a different view from just getting points. You get points based off of your performance and drive. You get points based off of what you do. If you really want to get to the next level you have to work to get it. Schools military and civilian will help you as a leader to grow. Pt and weapons is an individual event but you have to push yourself to score high to get those points. Awards same thing you do good and you get rewarded. So the point system is only there to help the Soldier use all of their available resources to grow and become a better leader. If a Soldier wants to get promoted they are out there looking for points and the ones who really don't sit and wait for points to drop. That's how you tell when a Soldier is really ready for the next rank. You will see their drive to work on theirselves so that they can work on their Soldiers and mold them to prepare for the next rank. (Hope I answered your question.)
